WIN XP and Aces High
« on: May 14, 2003, 03:42:24 PM »
Hello there all
I am experiencing problems running AH under WINXP PRO.
It is mostly about the graphics, Low frame rates and jerky movements and such. Just wondering if there are any tips from the community.
Would be nice to hear from someone who knows ;)
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

There are a number of things that could cause this.

Could you list your system specifications please?  It might give a direction to go.

Wow what a quick reply.
Well, I have 2 machines
1. AMD 1300 with 300megs or so of memory, 3d hardware is a savage chipset of 32 megs. Runs with the humble framerate of about 10, with a resolution of 800x600, 16 bit
never tried in online though

2. MAIN MACHINE. PIII 800 MHZ, with 300meg+ og memory, 3d accelerator is a Gforce 440 MX with 64 megs. Same machine (dual boot) runs in Win ME with typically about 50% more framerate. Just exited the CT as your message popped in, its a bit cloudy there so framerate was approx 35 or so, 1024x768, 32 bits.
What mostly puzzles me is that it warps/jerks systematically, about every second or so.
Runs brilliantly on WINME, however, WINME is by now 3 years old and too screwed up to operate the dial up connection :(

So there you go

You might try turning off some unecessary services that run in the background with XP since your memory is minimal for this OS (XP likes memory).  I turned off 20 services.

Problem fixed!!!
LAN connection seemed to interfear, so as sson as cable was unplugged, PRESTO, No Problemo.
Makes me wonder why it worked smoothly in WinME though..

Sounds like broadcast traffic or a binding issue, or even a virus...
