And living in a socialistic country has its benefits, the government does take care of you if you are unemployed and especially if you have kids...not to mention if you are unemployed with TWO kids.

Here in the US I don't think you can collect from the gov't if you quit your job.  But if you are layed off you can collect, but not very much, and not for long.

I was talking to my friend and her soon to be husband one evening and this came up.  They live in an area near a lot of Silicon Valley execs and employees live.  They said people brag about how many hours they work per week - 80 hrs, 90 hrs, etc.  and also frown upon government workers.  But we agreed how that's not for us... family is more important, and work stays at work.  It's wonderful that you're spending more time with your kids... it's a great "investment" almost sure to get great returns... Good luck Hortlund!

I was divorced about 13 years ago. I was one of those unusual cases where the father actually won custody. My daughters at the time were 3 and 8.

Even though I made an effort to be home every night, to coach soccer, to visit the school whenever open houses or teacher confrences came up, time still flashed by and kids grow too fast.

I'm sure I would be monetarily much wealthier if I had taken the easy way out and dumped them on the egg donor, but I wouldn't trade these last 13 years for anything in the world.

So, I take it the divorce was amicable and you're best buds with your ex-wife?

Ok, maybe not!

Well, it's better than "There is the guy who's raising the mailman's kids..."

That's great Hortlund.  Like Midnight, I have my son everynight but he stays with his mother after school for a couple of hours every day.

She left home when he was about 9 months and I took him full time.  I was in the Air Force at the time and worked 30 miles away in D.C.  It was tough and I ended up sacrificing promotions because of it, but it was more than worth it.

Kids are everything.

Good Luck >S<

WTG Steve!! And how wonderful you live in such an enlightened and progressive country like Sweden so the Government will still take care of your needs. One can only hope here in America us liberals set up the same welfare system you have in Sweden and we too can offer more social services.

It's nice to see you finally agree:)
