You guys are talking two different 'peripheral' visions. SW is talking more awareness of objects not focussed on. Vorticon is talking the edge  of vision where detail is not available but motion colour rought shape is.

Most likely the biggest effective gaming has, esp with sims and FPS's, is the 3D mental image capability. IE to visualize your position in an environment. Otherwise known as SA.

Now I wonder what porn does to improve our brains?

Perhaps we have a better visualisation of women, even with their clothes on?

I'd along with that I'd go research. It is in fact obvious in an intuitive way.

Interestingly I found it works in the opposite direction too. Years ago I was training for an Instrument Rating in TN. This meant long hours in that instrument of torture the Frasca simulator. The result  was excellent hand eye coordination. I found this out after a movie while waiting for a cab. I played some video game in the lobby. I was unbeatable, several spotty teenagers were most impressed. I ended up with the highest score by far. So unless the gamers of Jackson TN are the worst in the world then it was all the time in the simulator which improved my skills.

What instrument training did for me was improve my 3D mental image capability, my SA as Vulcan pointed out. I could do with some of that now in AH!

This research is very significant for the games industry. Perhaps it will become a school subject. Medal of Honour 101, What a laugh!

Damm good game but I can't get past the last level, so frustrating aaaaaaaah!

you kidding me? I already have 3.5 hours...I could solo in just one hour?!?!?! Of course, those 3.5 hours were more than 3 and 1/2 years ago, so I'd have to go over precision maneuvers again.
