I need a German translator...
« on: May 21, 2003, 10:00:06 AM »
I was poking around eBay looking for "Messerschmitt" and found an auction for a watch that was a replica of the watches "worn by Messerschmitt pilots".  So I bid an extremely low amount and I was quickly outbid by another buyer.  This morning I received the following email, but I don't know what it says because I don't speak German - although I do recognize "With Kindest Regards" at the end.

Freetranslation.com translates it to this: -

Quote
we prematurely concluded following offer with which you were bidder, because the salesman was excluded by the trade on eBAY:

2635334941 - ETA-Chrono*German-Military*6-Hands*new

If you delivered a commandment in the frame of the auction format in the named article, no purchase obligation results with the discontinuance of the auction from this commandment.  Note that a transaction is not uncovered after termination of the offer by eBAY by
the buyer protection.

Have a purchase in this offer by means of "immediately buying" getaetigt, we recommend to put in settlement especially on security
value to you.  As far as an effective purchase contract came before end end of the salesman into being, contractual obligations,
that you should perceive however with extreme care, exist.

With kind regards

If it's an ebay email, just reply that you'd like it in english and they'll resend it.

Well, the gist of what I got from the freetranslation gibberish was that it was an unauthorized offering on eBay and was cancelled by the seller.

So much for getting a $200 watch for $5. :)

I'm thinking they didn't get as much for the watch as they were hoping, so they changed their mind about selling it.

Yeah basically that the auction was ended by eBay, so you have no obligation to purchase the lot.  If you proceed anyways with a purchase, eBay's buyer protections don't cover you - bascially, proceed at your own risk.

Basically it says an auction you bid in was canceled due to removal of the seller from ebay. You are not obliged to buy anything from that auction.

Too lazy for so much typing,
