a litte damge question
« on: June 19, 2000, 12:01:00 AM »
why is it that when you get a wing hit..it comes clean off? This didn't happen unless you blew it off with explosives..here's some ideas:

-be able to take chunks out of every part of the plane if that spot is hit (e.g. looking out the wing and see a big hole in it.)

-indicate this by different colored damage indicators (gree: ok, yellow: some dents and bullet holes, orange: a chunck or piece of the part is missing, red: that part is gone.)

-these damages would alter the flight model

just a thought.

Yep, that would be great...but think of performance. Then requirenments going to be like P3 700Mhz. And most of us have crappy computers. Good idea thou

Yeah one thing I don't like especially is control surfaces, they are either there , or not. Seems like with especially .50s it would be cool if their performance gradually degraded instead of disappearing. I hear this is the type of thing they are doing with IL2 and B17-II.

Zig, that would be cool *if the game damage model* supported it. At the moment, it doesn't (I am fairly confident of this).

If we're saying that the shown damage is not representative of the actual damage, then a 109 should be able to fly without a wingtip during some circumstances. It can't.

Of course, it might be that HTC has modelled it so that wingtips go "totally off" after more damage, but I somehow doubt it.

Just coming back from Warbirds, I love the damage model in AH.  Warbirds has a terribly complicated damage model...it has many variables, and they are all wrong.  In AH, There aren't any one ping deaths (unless hit by a Panzer ) and  everything seems to work as it should.

The fact that the AH damage model lets you lose half an elevator is terrific.  Also, remember that a .50 caliber slug doesn't simply pepper things.  The Browning M2 was extremely effective.  It doesn't seem that it would take many hits to remove a control surface in real life.

My 2 cents
