Language? We Don't Need No Stinking Language!
« on: May 26, 2003, 12:34:16 AM »
I was flying the CT tonight.  Everything was good.

The LW had more people so I chose the US/RAF side for a change.  Enjoying myself...getting kills.  Everything is good.

Bradys5 comes in ask how things are going, so I reply that I'm kicking ash in my spit14.  MUTED FOR 60 FRUCKING MINUTES

GIVE ME A FRUCKING BREAK...ASH IS ALL OVER TV AND THE RADIO
[/b]

No warning, just an automatic mute.  This is something that I have b*tched about before.  Don't like the "no warning" thing.  Not talking about moderators.  That is too subjective.  I'm talking about an automative warning.  Seems I remember that during the Beta map days.

Brady was a squad mate of mine and I also consider him a friend (not saying it's his fault by any means) and I believe I understand what he would consider vulgar and am VERY, VERY DISMAYED at this.  I like to drink and I forget sometimes about these things and it's taking away from the game.

To me this is a fundemantal flaw.  You can have AH2.  You can have new planes, new missions, new scores, new ranks and even new squads.  If that is what mattered to me at this moment then I wouldn't be flying right now.

What does piss me off quite a bit is this reactionary response to cursing.  At least give a warning.

I'm not threatening that I'm going to leave if I dont' get my way.  To the contrary, I would like to stay but I do have to leave for a while due to work/school issues (yes, I'm back in school even at 34 years of age).

But please let me explain my logic.  We pay for this game.  If we pay for this game then SOMEONE must be a responsible person (not necessary an adult).  If this responsible person is playing the game then they probably will be responsible in the game also.  If someone else is paying for the person playing then IMO they should also be respsonsible for the person playing.

Okay, that isn't much of a solution but at least how about this.  There should be a warning FIRST.  Then  there is an automatic mute.  If you continue to cuss within "x" minutes after the mute is lifted (say 30 minutes) then you can have "severe reprocussions".

Do what you like, I really don't care as long as someone isn't muted for an entire freaking hour for saying arnold once when talking to a friend who doesn't happen to be a squaddie anymore.

Shane is a slobberdonkey and shouldn't be taken seriously.

Actually he is a loud mouthed ego-centrical person who's only thoughts revolve around himself.  Quote me...go ahead...qoute me.

He may be a good stick but his bed side manner is the equivalent to a grenade launcher in a hamster farm...Once you hear him your ears are deaf do to overexposure of loud, repetitive and meaningless assaults on the ears.  That and the wheel may go around and around but hamster is long dead.

Yeah, that is what Shane is...a long dead hamster with the wheel spinning around.  There, take that Shane.  And shut up once and a while will you.  It's like you don't realize how good you are unless you are telling everyone else how much they suck...even your own country mates.

Muted for 60 minutes is uncalled for. I dont know if the language filter is different from set up to set up. Maybe the CMs could clear that up.

Thank you :D

Sorry for the explosiveness.  I was having a good time and the mute rather put me off.  That and I was pretty damn drunk too :p

Thank you again, Mister Fork.

Ya sry Drunky about that, sometimes the settings on those things get outa whack, Frankely I think a PG 13 sound track would be fine but the powers to be have the filter enabled, I mute myself all the time but if you just leave and come back I think you can talk again, simply exit the game and come back.

while we're on the subject, i'd like to just say that i think the language filter thingie is totally stooooopid!  is tipper gore working for ah now, or what?

there are squads who utilize the word "bastard" in their name, but yet we can't say ass, squeak, bastard, and so on?  wtf, over?  i've heard worse things on prime time television, for crying out loud.

yeah yeah yeah...i know there are kiddies playing the game, and some "adult" individuals who don't care for that kind of language.  but i have a funny feeling that the vast majority of the people playing the game don't really mind such language...as long as you don't start going overboard with the GDs, Fs, and the like.

i'm sorry, but i believe that if you're so offended at someone using the word bellybutton (as in, "wow!  that kicks ass!"), or squeak (as in "quit your squeaking") and so on, that you need to lock yourself away in your basement and stare at your norman rockwell paintings and watch the andy griffith show and forget about the modern state of our society.

hey.  i love this game (well, the ct part of it anyhoo).  if i didn't, i wouldn't have stuck with it for the last 3 years or so.  but there are times when something has to be vented, and i guess due to the fact that i'm sick as crap on a holiday weekend, this would be a good time.  hehe.

it's happened to me on at least three of four different instances.  it's getting to the point that i'm afraid to type "golly".

anyhoo...that is all.:p
