Hello boxboy28,

What r u running AGP at? - 4x? 8x?

You could be having stability probelms due to the AGP interface - disable fast write and try AGP 4x -

Just - giving u some troubleshooting advice.

HAd the exact problem you had i.e. RUn acehighs high with highframe rate then the frame rate dropped very low and had to do hard reboot to get back windows. Unfortunately it was with different hardware. In my case it was a bios upgrade that cause the problem - had to revert to the old one. The new one had problems with the AGP and the reported temperature....

Hope this helps in some way

well sadly enough  swiching it  to 4x AGP worked  but still no faster than before and its the same damn equipment int the machine as before and it was set to 8xAGP.
its all screwed maybe some day ill get it right, but for now im gonna flash my bios and see what that does!

So i updated the BIOS but it only has 3 seting for AGP apature 8mg 16mg or 32mg..................lol well i selected 32
seems i might have gained a FPS or 2 but whats up with that ? and its only givin me the option for 8x apg (which is working)

Hmm only 32MB AGP Aperature size, every time I have encountered that its been a video card problem.  It could be entirely possible that you have done everything you should have, reformat, driver changes etc that some of the memory on that video card is bad, maybe all but 32MBs are screwed which would explain why you have such horrid performance from the best card out on the market.

Sounds like some funky bios prob. Did you flash to the most current. Alot of board are coming out with 9700pro bios updates to run these cards correctly.

Boxboy you never mentioned anything about running VIA 4in1 drivers to your system.. That might do the trick.

mars01, you sound like you are stuck at 60Hz refresh rates.  XP does this by default.

If you monitor can handle higher refresh rates at the resolution you are running at, you can use the ATi control panel to change the refresh rate.

By the way, staying at 60FPS is not a bad thing at all.

I have the latest Via drivers the Hyprion (what ever) but they are the newest.
The BIOS is the latest for the board. i was using the 1.01 version but i upped to the 1.12 (so there is a 1.11 version i could try)

I used the ASUS EZ flash bios this after i downloaded the newest Bios.
went directly into set up and change this things i know im supposed to, But the funny thing is that it wont let me change the AGP speed either! its stuck @8x (which is fine)

Hey Shuzzy,

Thats good news, I am actually running win2k,  I should have mentioned that, but I think win2k may have the same problem.

I have actually changed Refresh Freq in Display properties from 85hz to 100hz then 120hz with no avail.  I then tried the the program RefreshForce - that is what actually bumped it up to 120.

I downloaded RageTweak and set the card up as specified in one of the above links - weird thing there I could not unlock the advanced settings. ( Maybe I have to buy RageTweak)

I know some guys that are getting 200 fps with ATI cards, I would like to be able to take full advantage of the card, but I can definately live with it the way it is.

BTW you guys don't use OpenGL your DirectX right?

Thanks for the reply, you guys do a great job!!!  I love the sim and can't wait to try AH2.

    mars01.
