Salute Loser111, Great Fight
« on: May 29, 2003, 11:56:52 AM »
There I was....Xbrit had just shot my La7 out from underneath me during my feeble attempt to defend V10 from capture.   I grab another La7 to give chase and try to get xbrit.  As I lift off and raise my gear I hear flak going off.  I look up and see a high dot, thinking buffs I proceed on to my chase.  I plot my intercept on the map trying to determine which base xbrit is rtbing to.  I take another quick scan of the skys and see a hurricane above the base diving on my plane....Ahhh, panic starts to set in,  I just took off, still building some speed with this hurricane diving on me.  I know I'm dead,...I can't out turn him and with the speed he has in the dive I can't get away.   I watch as he gets closer,  just as he closes to about 1.2  I pull hard left and up, he misses.  I turn back towards base for protection so I can try to gain some altitude, the hurricane chases me back to the base but when the ack starts to fly he pulls away.   I fly over the base and now I have about 1k of alt and built up some speed, so I reverse and loop back towards the hurricane which is now about 2.8 way and over the water.

As I pull closer, the hurricane turns and comes back towards me, to avoid any possiblity of a headon or even a  front quarter shot I pull down then roll right,  I'm still close to the base and the ack fends of the hurricane again.    I'm getting slightly desperate,  I'm not in position to defend myself and I'm trying to figure how to get above this hurricane and get behind him.  Right about now I'm wishing I was flying anything other than an La7.

I get back over the water and build some speed again, watching the hurricane turn back towards me, he's 1.8 and holding.   I pull up and over gaining another few hundred feet of altitude with the huricanne following.   I dive down rolling to avoid his fire and pull away trying to get enough distance so I can manuver.   I pull up again and reverse heading back toward him.  I bank left to avoid the head on and then pull hard to the right.   I look behind and the hurricane is right there!!! He's firing, I roll right and roll left.I extend towards the base to let him think I'm going back to the ack.  This time he doesnt follow, He starts a turn to the right.   I wait till he's completed his turn and I reverse back towards him.  As I gain on him he starts to scissor,  I pull right and then left trying to slow down and stay behind him.  Not working,  La7 cant out scissor a hurricane.  I pull hard right and up to avoid his fire and pull away again.  My only hope is to get a snap shot on a turn, put I dont dare try to continue turning with this hurricane.  I get somemore distance and pull up and reverse again heading back towards the hurricane and again I avoid lining up for a headon.  As we merge with his plane on my right I pull up hard and roll inverted, hoping to be right behind him.  He's already started his turn to the right to come behind me.  I stay inverted and push the nose down and then I get the opening I was looking for,  he's still in his turn but now I'm inside him, I fire a burst of 20mm in front of his plane and miss.  the huricanne pulls a loop and trys to roll in behind me.  I pull out of my dive and level out and loop again.  the hurricane trys to loop and stay with me, but with his extended turn and the first loop he lost too much energy and has to pull off and banks to his right  I roll to the right, and then up and over and now I have another shot opportunity.  Remembering  that I fired to soon last time, I wait a little longer, watching him turn towards me unaware that I have pull inside again.  Wait for it....wait for it.....there!!! fire!!!,  I fire another burst of 20mm in his path and this time I connect, big time, smoke, flames burst from his plane as a seperate his left wing from his plane.

Salute to Loser111.   It was a great fight,  win, lose or draw it was intense.  I have no idea how long it lasted, seem like 10 mintues but it was probably alot less than that

That was a good fight indeed.  Lately I have been trying to avoid the massive missions and gang bang hordes so i have been flying to bases with no apparent action to try to "poke the hornet's nest" and create some good one on one fights.

This was the case when I ran into you.

You flew very with great intelligence and that is why you were the clear winner of the fight.  You used your field guns to your advantage to build your energy in a plane that builds and conserves E very well while making me spend mine.  Like a good chess player you were always at least 2 moves ahead of me.

Fights like this make the countless other crappy gamey confrontations that I have worthwhile.  Where the outcome is decided by one on one skill not aircraft performance or superior numbers.

A big to you as well sir.

Thanks Loser.   I'm just glad I got that shot before you got me.  I avoid Hurricanes when I'm flying an La7.   I almost thought you where going to follow me into the ack.  When you didnt I realized you weren't  there to just get a kill but have a knife fight;)

My second pass to the base I considered landing and getting a different plane, but didnt think you would hang around.

All that twisting and turning and looping was nerve racking cause I knew if I let you get too close behind me it was all over.    I also knew I had almost no chance of getting behind you and even if I did I would never get close enough for a shot.
I would guess that if you where in a spit or a typhoon I probably couldnt have got away with some of those moves.

Our squad (Mizfitz) loves to "poke the hornet's nest"

I was actually suprised we fought that long and nobody came by to "help"

I still owe xbrit:p

Rthus and I were poking the hornet's nest last night at 25 and got decended upon by rabid spitfires and p51s.   We just got too low and slow to cover each other,  I had a F4U-1 and Rthus had a D-11.   We didnt last long.   (Twice)

Later CPR, Shoulman and I did the same thing with P-51s to 63 and had better luck, because we dove down and came back up, didnt get to low and didnt get to slow.

P.S. What's that little blurb down at the bottom about us WW2OL lurkers?

Hey Beeg!!!,  you're alive!!....123 rivets

Thats only a close approximation of what happened.   there was so much twisting and turning I dont remember it all.   The only real clear parts are when it started "oh crap!! Hurricane,  I'm gona die"......and the end when I shot him down.   Everything else in the middle is all jumbled up.

That little blurb at the end down there is a line Ripsnort used in a post with Hardcase about WW2OL,  it thought it was particularly funny and added it to my sig line.   Besides I think Rip was right because upto a couple of months ago anytime someone said anything bad about WW2OL, Hardcase would pop in here

Thanks!  Nice to know you're still surviving.  Re: Ripsnort/Hardcase I agree that it's ignorant to play one sim and either say a bad thing about another or to post good things about whatever sim you play on another sim's board specially in the case where as in the sim in question only actual subscribers can post on their boards.  Totally baaaaad form.  However, what is even worse in my book are the ignorami who are so hooked into one sim or the other that they totally refuse to acknowledge that a competing product could have evolved light years beyond whatever their opinion is.  These mental midgets are condemned to spend their entire sim lives doing the same old, same old only because they're too hooked to take advantages of the numerous "come over here little kid" entreaties from the various sims.  I have no loyalty to these god-like sim developers and carefully exploit their free offers until I find the uber sim of my dreams.  Last week, I signed up for two free weeks of WarBirds just to keep an eye on them and forgetting that I already subscribe to the other one, I almost signed up for the current immediate download and 7 day free trail they're offering.  I continue to lurk around these boards for news on AH2 and would even come in to play the old product if there had been any changes since I left but from everything I read it's the same exact product that had me bored then.

Well my memory isn't as good as yours though I do remember parts of that day. The most important thing I do remember is that even though we both died a few times there was no bad feelings.
For the future and I'm sure you'll get payback at sometime.
