No Eagler, not by default but by superior seamanship and strategy. The RN defeated the, French, German, Dutch and Spanish navies at different times when the US navy ran flat bottomed barges. LOL

Did you you that between the wars, it was seriously considered that the next war may be between the USN and the RN? Caused by a US attempt to muscle in on parts of the British Empire?

All in the past now. It would be nice to see HMS Vengeance preserved. But I daresay it won't happen. Ironically perhaps US money might do it. I think an aircraft carrier would make a great cruise ship.

WOW, skeet shooting with a Phalanx gun!  Coooooooool!
And just think of the shuffle boards they could lay out!
And you could rig up a catapult ride too!

Oh and cpxxx, what Navy hasn't been beaten by the RN?  Hmmmm?

lol by default? You have heard of Trafalgar, where the RN destroyed a numerically superior combined French and Spanish fleet? The RN won battle after battle. Blockaded every French and Spanish port of importance.

They obviously didn't teach you history very well back in your day, Syz.

The War of 1812 turned in Britain's favour (through the RN) when Napoleon was defeated, and the massive armed forces around Britain itself were free to engage the US. There was no way the US Navy could match the RN's strength. A ceasefire was signed shortly afterward.
War! Never been so much fun. War! Never been so much fun! Go to your brother, Kill him with your gun, Leave him lying in his uniform, Dying in the sun.

You all noticed that that article is almost a year old? I did a 'what's this' post in Feburary of this year. Minas Gerais/Vengeance had apparently at that time been bought by the Chinese, what has actually happened since then I'm not sure. It certainly wasn't at Devonport last week when i was there.

Yeah ya can't knock the RN, we're responsbile for sooooo many sunken ships all over the world.  Recreational divers owe the RN a huge debt.

Don't know what you're talking about Dowd.  I never said anything about default and I simply asked a question.  What Navy hasn't the RN defeated?  I think you saw the waving flag and thought it was me.  It was Eagler I think.
