Yes he's done the whole place inside and out in porcelain.  He's got a drain in the floor in every room, so come spring cleaning time he just activates the wash down system and then opens all the windows to let it dry.

BUT

If they salt the roads or you live right on the ocean, it's a no brainer.  If you don't prevent chips, they will rust, and they will ruin your car.

Where I live we just don't have rust on cars, so it's a non-issue.  I get chips on my cars, and I ignore the small ones and touch up the big ones.  But in a lot of places it makes sense to protect the nose.

Rust no problem here, the first 3 months I had a hard time keeping up with the rock chips and touch up paint (which also involvles blending it in with 2000 grit sandpaper, and re-polishing) so, the bra cured the chip problem. Rock chips on black finishes stand out like a white boy at a Rap concert.

Worst part about Jet Black is it tells you ALL the abuse the finish has had...hardest color to keep clean and blemish free....the best part is...awesome shine when they're detailed correctly.

Yeah good point, chips do look bad with the darker colors.  It really looked terrible on my blue Civic.  Part of the reason I went for white on the new car.  You can really abuse it and it still looks good.  :)

Of course I'll NEVER give up my truck, since the Gun rack won't fit in the Bimmer rear window  "

Believe me, I probably hate that bra more than you do...but its a necessity with the highway and 18-wheelers that I pass on a daily basis (Rock chips) It comes off when I Concours the car, needless to say.

plus it keeps the headlights from sagging as your car ages.

Yes, the rumors are true... but the carpeting adds a duel purpose to the garage, wife hosts her "Stamping Up" parties (That provide about another $400/month income, not bad for a "hobby") and the kids have a romper room in the winter months when its wicked weather outside.

Midnight, I think you may be confused, my purchase was the result of driving a 525i.(Shrugs)

Funked, hope you had fun today at my expense.

What the hell is a "stamping up party"? And why is she getting paid for it?

Heh Rip, I'm a closet car neat freak :) I'm a budget kind of guy though, I use the Meguiar's 3 step stuff. Works great. Have to use the Carnauba about every 2 weeks around here with the intense sun. I use Meguiar's Quik Detailing spray on the paint around the sills and under the hood and Simple Green for all the rubber and plastic bits. That Mother's Back to Black is one of the best products ever.  I can't bring myself to use any power buffers though, I do everything by hand. I'm getting ready to clay the car this weekend, got a bunch of white overspray looking stuff all over it.  My old projects have left a fine coat of ground in oil on my garage floor, so it has a protective barrier :)

As far as stone chips...just don't tailgate and you won't have to worry about it ;)

Tailgating isn't the problem, its a two lane road with 18 wheelers blast by the opposite direciton at 65 mph, throwing stones at me.

Meguires is one of the best Brick and Mortar products available in a Carnauba from what I've tested.  For online, carauba wax and a "step up in quality, Griots is the best overall for polishes, cleaners, claybar and waxes.  "Zaino" would rank the highest in Polymer waxes, but its a painfully long process, with Klasse running a close second in quality.

Once you go power tools for finish, you'll wonder why you ever did it by hand, but then, I guess you need to be 40 something with aching joints....The best thing about power toys is...you can actually remove the swirl marks rather than just cover them up by hand. Sure, it removes a microthin layer of clear coat, maybe 2 mils in a worst case situation, but with todays clear coats at 35-45 mil thickness, who cares?  The solution to the swirl marks is permanent.

Since you got a dark color, you may as well begin hand washing properly, linear direction to the finish and double bucket wash method.  It helps keep the swirls to a minimum.

Since you *do* live in weather not compatible with Carnauba waxes, I'd highly suggest going Polymer, like Zaino(online) or Klasse(Brick and mortar stores)  It will last a good 6 months in extreme conditions, where mortal natural waxes wither in 6-8 weeks.  If the car is garaged, I'd go carnauba, if the car sits out in the weather, Polymer.
