CH Joystick Comparison
« on: June 02, 2003, 07:28:28 PM »
OK Guys!  Here is a poll on the CH Combatstick 586 and the CH Fighterstick.

Are the extra hat  really worth it on the CH Fighterstick?  What other options does the Fighterstick offer that the Combatstick 586 does not have?  Am I missing something?

Price difference is the Combatstick 586 cost $74  and the Fighterstick cost $101.  This is at Provantage.  Is the price difference worth it.

Thanks

Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

Think this way: it's meant to be a HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick),
so the more buttons and hats you have available to program them the better.
This might be more important for jet-sims with their loads of functions,
but I can assure you ;) that it's useful for choppers or prop-sims just as well.

Anyway, the price differentce is less than 30 bucks - why spare this lil' money
if you're gonna buy a stick that shall last for years ;) ?!
(Dunno what you usually spend for keeping your PC more or less up to date :D ...)

I had both sticks.  For AH it probably is no big difference because it is a relatively simple game.  If you play jet sims then you want the Fighterstick because you will need all the extra hats, plus the multiple built in stick sets.

Thanks for the input!!

I'm a prop man, no jet stuff here.

I had a CH Combatstick before the X45 and I liked it.

I'm a prop-nose myself (and a rotor-head),
but I for one wouldn't wanna miss a single button or hat of my gear nevertheless.

"Simple" as in "it's a simple game" (meaning its controls are fewer) is relative ;) , you know:
it's for instance really neat to have an extra coolie "left over" for the "radio"-commands.

Go for the bigger "Fighterstick", you sure won't regret it -
but if you'd choose the smaller "Combatstick 586" there might come a day when you'll miss this extra coolie
and regret not to have bought the bigger one right away :D ...

I myself had bought my very 1st gear (not a CH, BTW) almost a decade ago,
after several months of reading tests and reviews and thinking about prices and capabilities -
and this gear (stick, throttle and pedals) still is alive and kickin' and I've never regretted my choice :) !

When I upgraded to all  USB CH gear,I could have picked the Fighterstick, but instead stayed with the Combatstick.

Why?Because I'd been using the gameport Combatstick for almost eight years and I'm extremely comfortable with it.

I'll probably go with the Fighterstick.  Ya know, what the hell.  It should last me awhile.

Problem is, the current setup I have right now is the X45.  My wife bought it for me Christmas of 01.  It would be difficult to explain why I no longer use the JS she bought me.  It was her way of saying that she supports my bad habit of AH.  :)

Could get ulgy!

Not sure about difference in sticks but I fly with a CH Pro USB Throttle and an MS Sidewinder FF.  The more buttons/hats you have means NO TOUCHING KEYBOARD!  The only thing I have to touch the keyboard for is to type messages and dot commands.

If I were given the choice....go with the one with the most buttons/hats.

Swager....btw you have a very cool wife to get you a joystick for playing AH.  My wife "TOLERATES" my playing.  I have Sunday nights reserved for my "squad night"...she is pretty cool to let me have that...otherwise I sneak in a few minutes when I can!

I own the CH 568 Combatstick. I love it. Then I started thinking about that other 4 way switch. It would be perfect to set manual trims to.  You cant go wrong with either. Compared to the X45 the saitex stick is a toy. CH is smooth no nasty springs like the x45 to fight. You will see your accuracy go way up.
