No power supply cord?
« on: June 08, 2003, 10:38:24 AM »
After buying 3 systems "off the shelf" I am building (assembling) my first system.

Question: I have this high $$$ case.  PSU (420w) came with, but no ext. power cord?  Is this typical?  Damned if I can find one.  It is annoying to buy a case w/psu and feel that it is incomplete.

FedEx man delivered case/mobo/processor/mem on Fri.  I am really psyched to get into this.

Forgot to order thermal compound tho.

She Who Must Be Obeyed authorized $500 (or so) for my project I am already over $1000, but I can't seem to stop myself.  This is the sort of addiction/compulsion I felt when I first D/L'd Aces High. :D  Nice to feel that way again.

One more thing?  I need a new OS.  XP Pro w/SP1 ok?

Thanks guys.  I am new at this but very enthusiastic. :)

Have you opened the computer case yet?  They usually shove the parts and power cord inside the case.

I had the case opened before the FedEx guy made it out of the driveway. :)

No ext. ps cord, so what I have at this point is a really cool box to put really expensive parts in.  Just cannot power it up.

A little frustrating.  Are cords such as these power supply specific or can I pick one up locally?  Case is Thermaltake Xaser III V2420+U via newegg.

do you know anybody who has an old box you can rob the cord from.  they are all the same AFAIK. I probably have 5 or 6 laying around here.

btw- while best-buy has some good prices on most things, they really seem to rape you on the price of cords and cables.

The other 3 systems are around, but are all in use. :)  I was going to pull the cord off of the oldest one to check compatability but now I do not have to.

As part of my Master Plan I was going to (temporarily) rob certain parts off the oldest system anyway, specifically the tiny 15" monitor.  I have 15", 17", and 19" monitors, and I need the 19" Trinitron for the new rig (temporarily).  I am going to swap the 15" for the 19" on the system my wife uses and wait for eyestrain to take it's toll.  If everything goes to plan she will suggest that I get another monitor so she can have the 19" back.  I am also going to yank my ATi Radeon card out and replace it with an el cheapo card.  That one is a long shot tho- you do not need a lot of card to e-mail, play solitaire and do word-processing so she may not even notice it.

I really appreciate the quick responses.  I am really getting into this!
