Sunday Squad Ops Question
« on: June 12, 2003, 03:38:33 PM »
Okay Sunday Players. The current squad ops has less than a week to go before it wraps. Which means its time to look to the next one.

Here is my question for you. What terrain and time period do you want to play in? We are hammering out the details for the next one (thinking about incorporating VIFF's and FlyBoys ideas .. test them out, etc.).

I think a midwar setting would be good so that you start to see some of the more advance planes become available but if you lose them they are gone for the whole frame, etc.

But very quick  .. opinion on time frame and general theatre. Please post ideas ASAP because going to get moving on this tomorrow full force.

So Midwar Russian time frame? To work in Viff's .. idea then there would be a fixed number of LA7s that when lost are gone and the base plane would be LA5s. Or do you think a three step situation.

[list=1]
  • Limit number of LA7s, when lost gone (1/3rd of sides numbers)
  • Limit number of LA5s, when lost gone (enough to cover whole side once)
  • Unlimited number of ???? (P40Es)

As for bombers can work something out with the lend lease bombers along the same level .. B26s, A20s, and the Bostons.
Next we designate certain targets as impacting these plane

Russia seems to be a good theatre. Maybe Africa as well.

La7 is a bit late for midwar scenario. IMO we shouldn't touch the late war uberplanes, but it would might be work as well.

Please choose a simple design (fighters, bombers), so there would be absolutly no reason to sacrifice any unit on a death ride from starting point. Oh, I nearly forgot it.... no GVs. :D

See what I posted in this thread:

http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=88824

Okay you guys want the Eastern Front which is fine. However, if you want some form / version of attrition and resupply done we need to pick 1st line aircraft, 2nd line aircraft, and 3rd line aircraft.

Remember this would be an experiement so everyone involved needs to keep in mind their will be bumps along the way. We can change the formula sited in the above thread to something lower to keep the frame early on being dominated by better aircraft.

Just need to delineate 1st, 2nd, 3rd line aircraft for each side fighters and bombers possibly.

Russia is a little hard since its plane set is not extensive. Unless you want to go with P40E and LA5N. and just do 1st and 2nd line. Of do you have an idea of some other combination?

Next as in regards to GVs. I know people don't like them but the new policy on them is if you are in the GV you get a second life in a plane. However, since if things can get hammered out we will try something different for the next squad ops we will probably not do GVs .. just one more thing in the mix.

Russia used quite a few mid war a/c under the lend/lease act, I would rate all the aircraft as follows:

Fighters:
La-7
Yak9U
La-5
P-47D-11 (there were a few jugs given to Russia in lend lease act).
Spitfire Mk.Vb
P-40E
Hurricane Mk.IIc
Hurricane Mk.Ia
Polikarpov I-16 (use A6M2 stand in.. they have very similair performance, even though they look very different).

Attackers:
Yak-9T
IL-2
Pe-2/3  (use Mossie 6 stand in)
A-20

Level Bombers:
B-26
Boston Mk.III

Germans have pretty extensive plane set as it is, but I just thought of a good stand in for the JU-87G ant tank a/c: The hurri Mk.IID !

What do you think ?

Attackers:
1st = Yak-9T
??? = IL-2
??? = Pe-2/3 (use Mossie 6 stand in)
