Excessive hotdog eating is directly related to the need of having something long and hot in your mouth...now this thread makes perfect sense...

BTW the proper hot dog condiments:
Yellow Mustard
Sweet Pickle Relish
Fresh Chopped Onions
Tomato Wedges
Kosher Pickle Spear
Sport Peppers
A Dash of Celery Salt

mmm...nix the tomato wedges and add a slice of cheese and some saurkraut and now we're talkin!  I haven't tried 'em yet, but I heard that Boca dogs are a suitable substitute.  And, being that the hot dog is really only there to support the condiments, I wouldn't be adverse to trying one.  Either way, I won't be living in constant fear of a heart attack...I will either get one or I won't, and I'd be a hell of a lot more worried about my genes than I would about my diet.

I skip the tomato myself.  I just wanted to give the orthodox list of Chicago Hot Dog condiments.

On Sunday evening, my wife and I were delayed in Portland on an Alaska Airlines flight to Burbank.  The airline was very nice about the whole ordeal, and gave us vouchers for use at the local airport vendors to get food.

Took it straight to a "Good dog, bad dog".  Never heard of the place before, but because we had the vouchers, I ended up getting two things (plus a bunch of beer).

The "Oregon smoky" was fantastic, with grilled onions and saurkraut, as was the Bratwurst, same, add mustard and ketchup.  I was stuffed, but I still wanted more (still had voucher money to spend also, ended up not using ut).

If you ever find yourself in the Portland Airport, between gates C7 and C9, check this place out.

Check out Top Dog if you are ever in Berkeley.
The same sausages (Saags) are also served at the Oakland coliseum right behind home plate.

Ahh, I`m beginning to understand.

You`re talking Bratwurst :D

To have the best:

Take 1 german "rote" Bratwurst (all the white ones, including Thüringer, suck) or some french Merguez. Roast.

When the wurst is ready, halve a Brötchen  (Wecken to you swabian germans) and put lay the insides on the grill for a few seconds.

Put wurst in Brötchen, add some hot Mustard and just a hint of ketchup. Yummy.

Once you got bread that is and tastes like bread, and sausages that are made from real flesh and taste like sausages, no need for extra toppings.

Enjoy hot, and flush down with a cold one.
