Anyone who has Medieval Total War, I've been playing the new Viking expansion pack for a couple of weeks and it's excellent. Must buy for any MTW fans.
From what I've noticed so far:
- Religion dosn't play a major part of the game. You no longer have to worry about keeping the Pope happy or Crusades.
- Playing Vikings you can Pillage and Burn as much as you like for easy cash. Other factions as well of course but Vikings are fun with longboats and watching the fur fly as beserkers attack an enemy flank is a laugh.
- You get a Battle deployment screen before a battle which allows you to easily arrange your forces to suit and reinforcements.
- You now get flaming arrows and missiles for siege weapons when used to attack structures.
- AI seems improved makes better use of cavalry and tries to flank when possible etc. Less inclined to use wave upon wave of foot soldiers attacking defenses only to be cut down by lines of archers.
- Tech tree isn't as big. You can spend more time building up your war machine instead of towns. Though there is still alot to be done.
Overall an excellent update. I've played alot of strategy games and the depth and quality of this title really shows.
Best strat game I've ever played since the original Civ title.
