Glad to hear it, Curval. You won't be sorry.

Ok, first thing you need to do after installing it is to use the "true update" feature, which gets installed on your start menu. You need to run this multiple times, until you are patched up to the current version(2.30). True update will let you know when you're current.

Next, you need to RTFM, because this game is a little complex at first. You should also start reading the UV BBS.

By the time you do all of this, I'll be back in town. Unfortunately, my father-in-law died this morning from complications from his quadruple by-pass surgery, so I'm leaving early tomorrow morning for Fargo to attend the funeral and to be with my wife's family.

I'll contact you when I get back. Should be back on Monday, because I'm swamped at work, and was lucky to get the rest of the week off as it was.

Anyway, UV is a great game, and we'll have lots of fun. Can't stress to you enough about RTFM and perusing the UV BBS, as they both will help you understand how the game works.

Oh btw, the manual is on the CD in a PDF format I believe. I hope you have a new ink cartridge for your printer handy. :)

Aw man...sorry to hear about your loss.  Hugs to the wife and little one(s).:(

I loaded UV up to take a look but haven't updated.  Will do.  DAMN the initial install from CD took forever.  My machine isn't a slouch now either.

The game looks and feels exactly like the game I mentioned before that I used to play via modem with a buddy.  It looks a bit more in depth obviously, but I don't thik it will take too long to learn.  I assume all ships become availiable to you at historic dates etc. as you progress through the campaign.

You CAN play a whole campaign via e-mail right?  Not just scenarios?

I'm going to print all the adobe files at work and then take them home to my reading room (the bathroom).  :)

Which side do you prefer to play, so that I can think about strategy?  I liked to play the Japanese in the other game I played, but I'm the newbie so it doesn't matter at all...you're gonna kick my but to begin with regardless.

Curval, you are English?

BTW, why do Brits say: "he was taken to hostpital" instead of , "he was taken to THE hostpital"? Makes no sense to me.

Same with university. "I went to university" rather than "I went to to the university"

Thanks man. Appreciate the thoughts.

There are only scenarios in this game, but the scenarios that most people play are numbers 17 and 19. Those two scenarios are really the same scenario, but 19 has increased quality and quantity of IJN troops, pilots and planes, to give the Japanese player a more even chance of winning. Although they are called scenarios, they are of campaign length. They start on May1, 1942 and go until December 31, 1943! So, given that each turn represents one day, we should be done playing this scenario sometime next year! :)

You can also play each scenario in solitaire mode, but those are only good to learn how to play the game. Relying on the same tactics that worked against the AI is a good way to get your butt handed to you by a human opponent in PBEM games.

I usually play Japanese in this game, but I'm perfectly happy to play the Americans in our game. I'll let you decide since it's your first game. I'm just happy to play, makes no difference to me what side I play.

Yea...I checked the scenario thing out last night before I crashed.  The game I mentioned before actually enabled you to play out the entire war from the Coral Sea...until it was won or lost.

I suppose the level of detail in this game makes that impossible.  No worries.

We can flip a coin for sides once I figure it out.  ;)

Had a problem with the update last night, but it could have been Big_Johnson cutting my connection during the download because he was playing BF1942.  I will try again tonight.

NUKE...lol, I'm kind of English, or more accurately British.  I'm a colonist, a throw back to the good old days when Brittania ruled the waves.  I live on an itty bitty island called Bermuda...about 1,000 miles off the coast of South Carolina.  We are British...and fiercley proud.

Curval, I'm back and ready to rumble anytime you are. Want to start with a short scenario first, maybe "Coral Sea", or do you want to leap right into scenario 17 or 19?

It took a while to get updated, the links on website were broken.  Done now and trying to figure this thing out.

The tutorial isn't done very well...I need to run through it a few more times.  I ran outta paper at home too, so I only have parts of the manual in hard copy because I forgot to take disk to the office.   (Typical)  If I give it a couple of hours of undivded attention I should be ready.

I'm going to give it a good look tonight.  Had the two boys at the beach all day and the two of them should be crashed out by 7.00..7.30.pm.

Ok, np. Take your time and learn it well. I'll still be here when you're ready. Make sure to utilize the UV BBS to get up to speed.
