BF1942 > Desert Combat
« on: June 23, 2003, 01:34:07 AM »
Anyone else get the Desert Combat mod for BF1942 yet?  I'm loving it, and they actually have something worth flying in this one ... Helicopters!  AH-64s and that magnificent Soviet monstrosity.  All of the modern weapons make the game pace a lot quicker.  If you haven't gotten it yet, check it out, it's a free mod, and you can still play the old style after the mod is installed if you want...

It is absolutely amazing. I played the early alpha a few months ago, but it is much smoother now and much more balanced. The three new maps (Shahallah Valley, Al Khafji Dock and Lost Village) are simply superb. The Dock one is great - the US forces have to use those commando dinghies to cross a wide stretch of water to reach a docked freighter and dockside - all the while being shot at by the Iraqis. Just go as an Iraqi HMG PKM guy, lay down on the deck of the ship and blast away at the incoming commandos.

Lost Village is a large town where every building is open to be entered. The US has to chopper in their guys by black-hawk dodging fire from the new Stinger armed bazooka guys. The Stinger rocks BTW - 2 to 3 stinger guys can take out a Blackhawk in one shot.

Absolutely a blast ... just played a level of Lost Village ferrying soldiers from the base in a blackhawk and giving my gunner ample opportunity to mow down those whacky iraqis.  :)

I made 30 kills in about 2 minutes using the mini-gun on that level once. Admittedly my chopper pilot had us hovering over their base in a captured Blackhawk. :)

But I prefer to play Iraqis and shoot 'em down with my stinger.

It's a great level that one. Those alleyways are perfect for following someone around and then knifing them mercilessly. :)

Some of the best battles I've had have revolved around the square in the SE part of the town - the one with the chairs and tables on the N side and the building with the flag next to it in the East. It can get very frantic there.

Why does this not surprise me.  ;)

I haven't even updated my BF1942 with the new patch yet.  I will soon and then I'll d/l the Desert Combat mod.

I've been playing too much Uncommon Valor getting ready to fight Admiral banana.

I only do it because I'm a score potato. A Blackhawk holds 6 people when full. :)

Is there a new patch out?

I'm getting sidetracked by Uncommon Valor and Combat Mission:Barbarossa to Berlin, lately.

So many game, so little free time.

Patch 1.4 is the latest.  I have been playing Eve Of Destruction, another free mod and it blows DC out of the water when it comes to fun factor.  It has all new maps and it too has blackhawks and migs, etc. but it's set in Vietnam :).

Their main website is down at the moment, so you can get it there.

Edit: Sorry, Huey's not Blackhawks.  Memory lapse in the morning :)

Blackhawks in Vietnam?  Not Hueys?  How odd.

They are Hueys not Blackhawks. And they are the hueys with the quad .50 cal and rocket launchers as well as the troop carrier versions.

Love the A-4's on gulf of tonkin, but Charly don't surf is my fav.

The new version of DC is excellent, I prefer to sit on the docked freighter with the AK+203 combo (can't remember off hand what the Iraqi equivilant is) picking off the boats with the 203 as they come in that way....

Just the original (patched current).
