I'd moved to Virginia from Maryland, last summer. I'm very happy were I am now, and didn't care for PG county maryland at all.

Back in March, with the expected arival of my daughter in mind, my wife and I moved to a bigger apartment in the same complex. Everything was cool from March, until MT showed up for a visit.

We were sitting out on my front porch, driniking a beer and grilling chicken, when MT says "dude, I just saw a rat" Now, I've lived in this complex for a year, and I've lived in this apartment for 3 months. So I'm not buying it.  I says to MT, I says: It wasn't a rat, it was a squirrel. And MT is all like "Yeah, sure a skinny tailed squirrel" and some I'm all like "dude, it was a SQUIRREL"

But as it turns out, it was a rat. And there is a metric **** ton of them living near my appartment. It's like living on the set of "Ben" or "Willard" **** its giving me the heebbie jeebies just thinkning about all those little bastards.

hey, MT, so what's it like to be right?  I haven't ever been right, so I wouldn't know!

Dude, I know your pain.

I was playing volleyball at the local YMCA one night and had just won the point.  As I've got my back turned and am walking to the backline to serve I hear a teammate call out "What the **** is that?"  Thinking someone had made an obscene gesture I turn around in time to see a little rodent scurry across the floor and disappear into a hole in the gym floor along the wall where I was heading.  Totally freaked me out.  For the rest of the night I kept turning around to see if the dirty varmint was trying to sneak up behind me and bite me on the ankle or something.

The hole is still there, but covered with a strip of black plastic so it will blend in with the weather stripping on the wall.  Still freaks me out thinking about it.

The horror, the horror.

Then one day I'm stopped at a busy 3-way 6-lane intersection waiting for the light to change.  As I'm sitting there, I see a rat run a good 50 yards across the intersection, from a chicken wing place to a KFC on the opposite corner.  Totally bugged me out. The wing place closed down a year ago and I only just recently started eating at the KFC again (best biscuits and gravy in town - how could I resist any longer?).

But wait, there's more.

So I'm driving down my street on my way home.  As I turn the corner I see a rat run across a utility line strung over the street.  I mention it to my wife and she freaks out and wants to know how prevelant these things are.  So she does some investigating.  Turns out "fruit rats" are common in our part of town because so many people have citrus trees in their yards.  There's also a large population of pet cats roaming around.  When I bought my house I thought it was unusual for there to be so many cats, but didn't really give it much of a second thought.  I just thought a lot of people kept cats as pets because it is a fairly urban area.  Now I realize that it all makes sense in a "natural order" sort of way .

Ho hum... right again.

Actually I majored in Bio Sci in college. Never used it, but it helps in identifying varmints at a distance. My thoughts at the time were that there must be a ****load of the suckers if this one is brave enough to run out into an open area in broad daylight. IIRC there were even some kids playing within a dozen yards or so of the critter.

(Get a few cats Sik)
