Frenchy since I will be flying this plane for the next month or so, a few questions to get me started.

1. Flaps - What is the top speed you can extend the flaps 0ne notch for manuvering? Is it like the P51D's?

2. B&Z - When you Zoom, do you climb to just before a stall(cons permitting) or do you have a speed you won't drop below which is your next Boom start? I know situations vary and so forth. I'm starting conservitive for a bench mark before going balls out.:D

3. T&B - You and LftFoot T&B'd me with very similar techniques. Since you are both from the same squad, I'm assuming you have developed and teach successfully repeatable T&B in the P47 against planes such as Spits, 109's, Lavochka, etc. Please help me to understand how to do this.

4. Alt Combat - Combat starting from 20k down to 15k. I seem to repeat this mistake. I co-alt merge a 109 or spit or boom one 2-3k below. If co-alt and I dont get the con on the first turn from the merge I cannot get it off my tail short of 0g dive. I boom on the con, I can get a second sometimes. But If I don't get the shot, I seem to zoom back up with a pest on my tail. A.) When I've got the pest how do I get rid of it? B.) How do I exterminate it in the first place?

Between 15k-20k the nature of verticle manuvering seems much different than 10k and below. Flying low furballs has not prepaired me very well for alt combat. I think I've gotten used to the ground helping me limit my targets virtical.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.:)

I'm not the least bit as good as some of the 56th guys in the jug, but I do have some good experience in it.
So I'll try to answer:

1. Flaps - can extract about the same speeds as the p-51 - which means the first notch can come out at any reasonable speed (something like 350 mph). It will NOT help you turn faster at those speeds but it WILL help you slow down faster and get a smaller turning circle if that is what you are after.

2. Zoom - p-47 is not a good zoomer down low around all the lighter helicopters. The higher alts and higher speeds the better it gets. If needed, you can stay long at the top, by using flaps and tilting the plane slightly to one side (left is better). That way it will fall gently over the lowered wing without spining at very low speeds.

3. T&B - the jug's best feature is burning E. sounds bad but as long as you have the energy to burn you can suprise the opposition how well it turns. Dont think turning RATES - think turning RADIUS, that is the key. Usually it's not a turning fight but somekind of stall/rolling fight (scissors).

4. ALT - at high alts planes suffer from sharp drop in engine power. planes who depend on it suffer more. The jug has poor power loading from the start but it hardly drops with alt, so with WEP you actually climb better then a p-51 as of ~18k i think.
Also, you have to be carfull with E managment since you can't get it back easily. In the thinner air you need larger angles-of-attack to generate the same lift - meaning, it will tempt you to pull on the stick. Manuvers just have to be slower up there.
Last, at high alt there is a big difference between IAS (that controll stalls, turnrates and such) and TAS (which effect zoom and E) so a plane with easy stall (that comes quick up there) and good zoom that depends on inertia will excell - that's the Jug.

I'm still in frenchy's debt after learning a few tricks from a film he posted long long time ago

Mosquito VI - twice the spitfire, four times the ENY.
