gameport woes
« on: June 27, 2003, 03:17:59 PM »
after reformatting my HD everything goes fine after driver updates except for my gameport.

I am currently using an Asus a7v8x *audio - lan vers.*as my motherboard. the game port is on a pci card that came with motherboard.

the problem is that under my windows 98 device manager there are no unknown items and the "sound, video and game controlers" menu only lists my onboard sound (Avance' 97 audio for VIA audio controller)

I have tried looking on the asus site under my particular motherboard for any new drivers which would address such an issue but i cannot find anything.

how could i get windows to identify my game port?

Monti,
Hmm, Very interesting problem. Did you install the Sound Drivers from the CD that came with the Motherboard???? If so then try uninstalling those and install from the lastest version available at the website. (some CD's auto install the wrong drivers)
Looking at the website I notice there are "Different" drivers
for 98 and 98SE (seems unusual) so make sure you get the right ones.
Also I'm wondering, did you install the VIA 4 in1 drivers right after you installed Windows and BEFORE you installed the sound drivers?
Let me know, I'll check back to see what happens.

If it takes full power to taxi to the hanger, your gear is probably up.

You might try turning off your built-in soundcard on your motherboard.  Once you do this you can delete the drivers for the onboard sound card. Re-install the drivers for your PCI soundcard and see if Win98 sees it.

Thanks for the Help!

actually, i wasnt able to get windows to reconize it because i was too dumb to enable game port in my bios and assign a proper irq for pci slot devices.

lol ;)

Thanks
