Nopoop! Nice wall-o-text there.

Almost as long as one of my own walls.
I've known you a long time, and I also joined WB in 1998. And I agree with much of what you said about the Historical Realists. Remember Virexx? He had a thread going in September 2000 in which I said this about Historical Realists:
- Historical Realist These are the guys who want WW2 to be modelled right here in WB. They are a well intentioned bunch who probably favour the HA, but their quest for realism falters because they sometimes overlook the fact that this is a game, played by a very diverse set of people whose first language may not be English, and who are on different time zones, with different real-world commitments at different times, and whose short-range eyesight may not be up to seeing small grey dots, 1mm in width, on a dark blue background. Some of us don’t have time to engage in 8-hour buff sorties, the way it was in WW2. Most of us want to have fun, and WW2 was not fun. Therefore the more fun we are having, the less like WW2 it really is. The Historical Realists don’t like this, and are forever wanting to make changes that would have the effect of making the game commercially non-viable, eg when you die, you stay dead for 10 minutes, or wait until the next TOD, for example.
But the pendulum can swing too far the other way, resulting in all manner of suicide crap, and guys just upping the easiest, fastest, strongest, most powerfully armed plane thay can find. That's why we always see the P51/LA7/Spit ix/YAK/N1K subset of planes used by what seems like 90% of the players. Many people in WB
loved early war dogfighting. I hated it - few of the planes could carry dangly bits - lol. As for guys wanting to fly their own ride, I said this - in the same thread.
- Waaaah! I want my own plane… Of course, we all have our favourite planes. I have to live without my favourite planes for at least half of the ToD, but have had to learn to accept that many people like early war, and indeed that there was a time in WW2 when the emphasis was on T&B and there were no e-fighters available. The my plane type feels that if he’s paying $2 an hour, his subscription should entitle him to the plane of his choice.
I agree, the WW2A was the death of WB, and was a key reason for my own departure. It was a good idea at the time, but suffered because of planeset imbalance, and the dweebish side switching that you spoke of. I campaigned to have the sides locked all ToD. The ien response was to increase the minimum interval for a side switch from 10 minutes to one hour.
Ya mess with the sandbox, my antennas are up. Fields too far apart promote one type of aircraft, fuel restrictions because of easy fuel porkage promote one type of aircraft. You all argue that there are too many uber planes up. Well jeez when you got 25% fuel, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO FLY ????
I agree again - mess with the "sandbox" as you call it, and MY antenna is up. You say that fields too far apart promote one type of aircraft. Is it therefore not true to say that fields too close together will promote another kind of aircraft? Isn't it also fair to say that this is what you really want?
Suggestions for nudges as beet1e detests are changes that in my view that increase the choices in the sandbox. Might see a few more midwar planes if the fields were closer and the fuel wasn't an easy pork. Not rocket science.
ROFL! What a crock... Now you're starting to sound like Lazs. The kind of "nudges" you speak of are going to increase YOUR choices. Nice touch of the old me-me-me-me-me syndrome. Gawd, I don't think I can stand two of you.

Between you, you want "hardness" of certain structures to be increased. Why? So that bombs have reduced effect (read NO effect, as that is
really what you would like). To make the jabo/buff pilot's life even harder still, Lazs wants bombs to be perked.
Less choice for the buff!
Less choice for the jabo!
But you don't care about that, do you?
Nopoop, I don't want to see your Utopian Sandbox implemented, or any of your "hardness nudges". It is true to say that the Historical Realists of WB tried to take the game too far in one direction. But I don't want to see it taken to the opposite extreme. I am relieved to hear Skuzzy's point of view - see my sig.

Balance, my boy, balance!
