Nopoop!  Nice wall-o-text there. ;) Almost as long as one of my own walls.

I've known you a long time, and I also joined WB in 1998. And I agree with much of what you said about the Historical Realists. Remember Virexx? He had a thread going in September 2000 in which I said this about Historical Realists:
  • Historical Realist These are the guys who want WW2 to be modelled right here in WB. They are a well intentioned bunch who probably favour the HA, but their quest for realism falters because they sometimes overlook the fact that this is a game, played by a very diverse set of people whose first language may not be English, and who are on different time zones, with different real-world commitments at different times, and whose short-range eyesight may not be up to seeing small grey dots, 1mm in width, on a dark blue background. Some of us don’t have time to engage in 8-hour buff sorties, the way it was in WW2. Most of us want to have fun, and WW2 was not fun. Therefore the more fun we are having, the less like WW2 it really is. The Historical Realists don’t like this, and are forever wanting to make changes that would have the effect of making the game commercially non-viable, eg when you die, you stay dead for 10 minutes, or wait until the next TOD, for example.
But the pendulum can swing too far the other way, resulting in all manner of suicide crap, and guys just upping the easiest, fastest, strongest, most powerfully armed plane thay can find. That's why we always see the P51/LA7/Spit ix/YAK/N1K subset of planes used by what seems like 90% of the players. Many people in WB loved early war dogfighting. I hated it - few of the planes could carry dangly bits - lol. As for guys wanting to fly their own ride, I said this - in the same thread.
  • Waaaah! I want my own plane… Of course, we all have our favourite planes. I have to live without my favourite planes for at least half of the ToD, but have had to learn to accept that many people like early war, and indeed that there was a time in WW2 when the emphasis was on T&B and there were no e-fighters available. The my plane type feels that if he’s paying $2 an hour, his subscription should entitle him to the plane of his choice.
I agree, the WW2A was the death of WB, and was a key reason for my own departure. It was a good idea at the time, but suffered because of planeset imbalance, and the dweebish side switching that you spoke of. I campaigned to have the sides locked all ToD. The ien response was to increase the minimum interval for a side switch from 10 minutes to one hour.

Ya mess with the sandbox, my antennas are up. Fields too far apart promote one type of aircraft, fuel restrictions because of easy fuel porkage promote one type of aircraft. You all argue that there are too many uber planes up. Well jeez when you got 25% fuel, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO FLY ????
I agree again - mess with the "sandbox" as you call it, and MY antenna is up. You say that fields too far apart promote one type of aircraft. Is it therefore not true to say that fields too close together will promote another kind of aircraft? Isn't it also fair to say that this is what you really want?

Suggestions for nudges as beet1e detests are changes that in my view that increase the choices in the sandbox. Might see a few more midwar planes if the fields were closer and the fuel wasn't an easy pork. Not rocket science.
ROFL!  What a crock... Now you're starting to sound like Lazs. The kind of "nudges" you speak of are going to increase YOUR choices. Nice touch of the old me-me-me-me-me syndrome. Gawd, I don't think I can stand two of you. :( Between you, you want "hardness" of certain structures to be increased. Why? So that bombs have reduced effect (read NO effect, as that is really what you would like). To make the jabo/buff pilot's life even harder still, Lazs wants bombs to be perked.

Less choice for the buff!

Less choice for the jabo!

But you don't care about that, do you?

Nopoop, I don't want to see your Utopian Sandbox implemented, or any of your "hardness nudges". It is true to say that the Historical Realists of WB tried to take the game too far in one direction. But I don't want to see it taken to the opposite extreme. I am relieved to hear Skuzzy's point of view - see my sig.

Balance, my boy, balance! :D

Hehehe the only difference is I, as others I'm sure, read all of his post, you're looking at what I read of yours. :p

PS...Only read that much because I forgot to sign in.

Nice post Sax and NoPoop. I always enjoy fighting all the 13th down and dirty and flying along side the likes of the BKs.

But of course, Preacher-Boy. Your kind is only interested in half truths and single-sided debates in which the outcome is set in tablets of stone. I expected nothing less from you. And nothing more. :D

Guess I'd also do well to sign in next time...

gee poopie... wish i woulda said that.

beetle...  close fields do not promote any type of gameplay... they allow it.  big difference... far fields prohibit certain types of gameplay.

close fields do not prohibit any type of gameplay.    far fields are the equivelent of an RPS.  an RPS that is forever stuck in late war.

you seem to advocate such an arena yet.....  you scream and rail against the La7... you arena forces people into the damn thing.  All of this may be a little hard to get straight in your head so just try to live by these words....

lazs is the friend of choice... if you dissagree with lazs you are the enemy of choice.

No no no...

The only reason the 13th won was because I was not there to participate!  Indeed if I had been in the mix I would have surely been the demise of the squad trying to steal every kill and having no concern for wingmen.

Wingmen, what are those again ;).

Beetle.  We’ll get those Toad and Lazs action figures out to you in a few weeks.  The art work is being done as I type this.  Toad didn’t like the size of his, um, well he didn’t like the proportions lets say and Lazs keeps wanting some sort of smell added.  We’re still working on that one.

Can I order the Lazs Action figure too?

I want the one with the lifelike hair and the Kung-Fu grip...

Oh, and when you pull his string, he shrieks "MOVE THE FIELDS CLOSER TOGETHER!!".

:D

I'm too frightened to pull NP's string.....

The kind of "nudges" you speak of are going to increase YOUR choices.

... and at the same time they didn't DECREASE your choices ... that is the key element for "nudges" to be implemented.

Again, I will say that these "nudges" ... "get fields closer" - "change V Base to A bases to get fields closer" - "add more CV Groups" have been implemented by NoBaddy in the new Trinity map.

I would believe that these "nudges", were blessed by the powers to be at HTC, because they DID NOT restrict choice, nor did they impact in any negatiev way, HT's idea of gameplay within the MA. If it doesn't pass the HT filter, it ain't going in.

Harden fields to make them a little bit more difficult to take/pork - YES !!!

Perk bombs - NEVER !!!

Beetle, never understood why you're opposed to closer fields...especially with your flying style.

You like high-wing loaded planes with lots of alt underneath you, Your generally conservative and dislike having to make out-of-plane manuevers.

Push the fields together and you create larger more continuous low level furballs of slow moving planes piloted by guys operating on the edge of SA overload. That's a much easier food source for someone with your tendencies than the arena your forced to cope with now.

Because of the length of the trip to the fight you inevitably run into co-alt planes with faster acceleration/higher-wing loading piloted by guys who love to knife fight and only happen to be up at your alt because their ROC is good, and they were bored taking a piss.

With closer fields I would bet your dreaded la7s would be a lot smaller a nuisance as those personalities would be quickly sucked into the fur and never take the time to climb to become a danger to you.

Food for thought.

Hornet, you know nothing about my flying style. And neither does Lazs. Of course, I could post certain films/screenshots etc., but then one gets accused of bragging. So what's the point?
