Sound Effects
« on: July 13, 2003, 06:41:58 PM »
I know sound effects will obviously will be changed.  I would however like to point out a few things

-We need more engine sound effect varietys.  Currently we have 3-bomber, jet, and fighter. Would like to see more like loud fighter engines, for plane like f4u and p51, then medium engines, for other planes, etc.

-IMO a lot of the sound effects sound kind of fake and studio recorded (with the exception of the plane starting up   Will we expect any actual sound effects?  Like actual recordings of a p38 engine?

-I have noticed a lot of the sound effects are constant.  When you fire a mg, it is the same repeating sound. I know different guns sound different, but for the same type of gun. I have seen in some other games that when firing them, sometime they are quiet, sometimes they are loud...basically more varieties of a certain type of sound so it doesnt sound the same each time I fire a machine gun.  This adds lots of immersion. We already have one example of this which is plane damage.  There are all sorts of sounds for plane damage.

-Louder and more realistic sounds!  But being a real pilot in training, the wheels don't excactly screech as much as they do in this game.  It sounds more like actually the landing gear bouncing as it hits the ground.  Also, louder explosions, and the damage sounds are kind of fake sounding.

If you have any more suggestions, feel free to post them.

I use Robo's WB 2.xx sounds and converted them to work with AH and I find they are far better and immersive than Mitsu's sounds.  Even the P-38 sound is from a real P-38.

Where can one find this Robo's sounds??

I use a hybrid of sounds and always select the ones I like - for instance, I use a DB601/DB605 engine sound I've mixed myself. ;)

It'd be interesting see that we have more choices!

siteRoboto's Warbirds 2.xx sounds

He's also working on a sound pack for Aces High and already has one pack for the B-17G but it's temporarely unavailable for download.

You'll need a probram like dbPowerAmp Music Converter to convert some of Roboto's sounds to AH.  Some sounds like the 20mm Hispano and .50 caliber machine guns don't need to be converted and will work by just renaming them to the appropiate AH file name.
