Hey Yeager, a Yes - Keys To Ascension observation...
« on: July 10, 2003, 11:47:57 AM »
Yeager, as you and I have talked in the past about our being fans of Yes, I have to say I bought Keys to Ascension on DVD on Monday.  After watching the Siberian Khatru I turned it off.  Was this thing directed by a 15 year old or was it done by some person still stuck in the late '60s mode of music video directing???  The audio is good at best but man, for the venue they chose to film it in it sure was a major disappointment.  THE classic line up, the perfect set list (although I was disappointed that The Revealing Science of God was played instead of Ritual), I am left with nothing but disappointment on this project.  What's your take?

Having enjoyed the CDs recorded from those three nights I would have thought the DVD would have pretty much been a "must have".  However, I try to wait at least a little while before buying anything new these days, to wait and read some first impression reviews.  The reviews I read on yesnet were extremely one sided and conveyed a reals sense of disappointment (just like your post does) so I never did buy it.  Word has it that the band was having management issues (again) and got a long thick shaft on the deal.  They have a dedicated management team today that is supposedly doing the band justice for a change.

Yes made a DVD of a concert they performed in Denmark while touring Europe with the Youth Symphony following the release of the CD "Magnification".  Check out the Magnification Concert DVD.

Yes is touring today with the same line-up as the K2A shows and I believe you will see a real good Yes concert DVD from this latest tour in the near future.  No doubt the band is aware of the poor job done on the K2A DVD and they will try to correct that, as they should.

Also, if your a Rush fan: Rush is slated to release a DVD this fall of a concert they performed in Rio DG last summer.  I have heard it is about the best show performed by Rush ever put on film.

Cheers

Yessongs has been released on DVD but it is not very good quality.  Still worth seeing/having if your a fan.

Well, at least I wasn't thinking that I was too hard on them.  I have been a fan for so long and, like you, I bought the CD's and have enjoyed them.  I actually like Live From The House Of Blues better but then it couldn't have gotten much worse.  Last time I saw them was on the '97 Open Your Eyes tour with Billy and Igor.  Was good, just not the same without Wakeman.  I have yet to see the classic lineup with out all the extras, i.e. the Union tour, which I really, really liked but wanted more Relayer and less Union.  Now, I'd like more Tormato and Drama.  Hardly ever get to hear them play those songs live.
