Is Italian under secretary responsible for tourism, Stefano Stefani appointed or is that maybe an elected office?

If elected, where do I contribute to his re election? This guy is a riot!

Excerpts from the New York Times: (so this may be all just made up)

Gerhard Schröder Cancels Italian Holiday

Mr. Schröder seemed to be bowing to German public opinion, aroused this time by some inexplicably tactless comments by an Italian under secretary responsible for tourism, Stefano Stefani, who characterized the eight million German tourists who visit each year as beer-swilling, chauvinistic boors who, come summer, "invaded the beaches of Italy."

Finally, Mr. Stefani had these choice words about Martin Schulz, the German deputy who had criticized Mr. Berlusconi and was then excoriated by him. "This Schulz," Mr. Stefani wrote, "probably grew up taking part in noisy burping contests, after drinking gigantic amounts of beer and gorging himself on fried potatoes."

Beyond all the "scenic effect" of the words of Mr. Stefani (he's not been elected , he's been nominated and he is part of Bossi's "Lega" ,the worst example of a popular-separatist party), people like him (see Mr.Berlusconi too) shows a misunderstanded sense of humor, good for chatting between drunken friends in a bar, but not very useful for political concerns.
Not our brightest days in international politic with these people, I fear.
On the other way I have to say Mr. Schroeder is acting like  a child stomping his feet on the ground for anger:rolleyes:

P.S. note the funny (tragic) fact that he is been appointed as responsible for tourism in Italy......sure he made a great work for Italian tourism:mad:

I figured it was an appointed post, and sometimes I find non-diplomat-speak refreshing.

You're probably going to pick up on some Americans who aren't going to Paris or Munchen but still wish to go to Europe this summer.  Probably not anywhere near eight million, but you won't lose eight million Germans either.

He can then say something about us when we order some freedom fries and a Budweiser.

I used to be a Europhile. But this latest tard contest between Germany and France has changed my mind.

At least now I know why Britain built an Empire and remained aloof from Europe for so long. Continental European politicians seem have a high proportion of lunatics in their ranks.

It's an Italian bashing thread ?

« italian are ***** especially Naso  »

gniark gniark ;)

More seriously ,I disagree with your lunatic coment Dowding I strongly believe that the amount of lunatic and idiot is a constant in the humanity.

Mister Stefani is a lunatic dork I agree but Schoeder reaction was a bit childish also ...
I expect a  responsible of tourism to try to not piss his customer at least ...

Holden McGroin I expect a decrease of american tourisnm not only in France or Germany but more in the whole Europe just by looking at the $/€ exchange rate.

Without "Lega" support, Mr Berlusconi would have to resign from Prime Minister. Thats the real truth. Thats why those animals from the "Lega" make themselves heard. Disgusting

I was being facetious. It's not really a nationality thing, it's the whole EU thing. It's been turned into a gravy train with a side-line as circus at a time when it has a job too.

Didnt Berlusconi tell the German guy that he should star in a movie as a concentration camp guard last week?

Fantastic stuff - as I understand it, though, the German was heckling him... kind of deserved a retort.

Sorry for the late answer, Holden, bad times @ work.

Anyway, he is nominated by the government, and is an "a****biiiip****ole", like many others in our actual government....

well...

...In our usual government (left or right there's not a big difference).

Not many words to add to those of Nibbio(stegor) and Gatt ;)

I agree with them.

A little thing I can add:

There's a big difference between the Italians that I know, and the people that is there to be voted to represent us.

The main frustration is that to be present at a political level, you need to be part of that group, so seem nearly impossible for us to have a real and honest representative government.

P.S.

But the tourism minister's entertainment value must account for something.
