The Tiger Tank
« on: July 10, 2003, 07:55:21 PM »
Ok I was watching history channel and the show was on the tiger tank. Tank crews from both sides where talking about the tank. Allied tank crews all talked about how rounds bounced off even at 100m. Accounts of 5 tigers taking out 47 vehicles and 230 or so men. A tiger took 256 hits before being destroyed. A tiger to 40 hits lost road wheels and still made it to friendly positions. If at 2k range it would not die. Tigers were meat against carpet bombing tho.

It all boiled down to this. In open terrain Tigers are unstoppable but in areas where you can ambush them it was possible to kill them.

So em errr can I have those 17 tigers I lost last tour back? I seem to be the 1 ping wonder.

Tigers never had 88mm panzers shooting them. The 200+ hits that panzer took were from shermans and yes those rounds bounced off.

oops my bad panzers are 75mm but there is no comparison between the sherman gun and the panzer gun. sherman 75mm is a low velocity. Panzers is high velocity dramatic difference in hitting power.

And real-life tigers didn't immediately blow up if they barely touched destroyed town buildings.

I have learnt to assume that my Tiger is made out of Porcelain and any enemy Tigers or Panzers are made out of Titanium with reactive armour and radar controlled 88mm guns

wipass - do you remember that Esso advertising campaign in the 1960s? Yes of course you do. ;) "Put a Tiger in your Tank!"

I didn't see this program, but I saw one about the Russian T34. That was a very good tank. I hope we see it in AH one day.

Best way to ensure I die fast is to take a Tiger, I believe there is an electronic magnet in a perk vehicle. Drive for an hour in a Panzer, but take a Tiger and I don't see the end of the VH before I am dead.
