How far from a his home base does a bandit have to be in order for his ditch to count as a kill for you?

The other day, an A6M5 took off from a field. He was circling in AAA, so I zoomed down an killed the AAA as I was getting bored of waiting for a kill. After that I shot the A6M5 and appeared to give him fuel leak and oil leak. He landed off the field by about 1 mile and I shot his wing off (fire even started) as he was slowing to a stop. Satisfied I had the kill, I flew on and watched my six view. The A6M5 ended flight and I got no kill, no assist, nothing.

So how far do they have to be in order to get a kill? Or, should I have gotten the kill and didn't?

Not 100% sure here but I think the field he's closests to.

If he's 20 miles away from his own field and 19 miles away from your (the enemy) field and you shoot him, he ditches end exits, you get a kill.

A ditch is a kill??
I have never seen that, i always try to ditch when i have damage so that the other guys does not get the credit and it works!

Maybe it is because i am always close to the base??

FB, if you get a "captured", it means you've ditched in enemy territory. In that case, the one who made the most damage (or something) will get a kill from you. But if you get a ditch, you're safe.

Well I've ditched just off the runway on a friendly base before and it's said I was captured. Go figure that one out.
