It's a pity one of the most significant planes in WW2 - the 109 - is rarely seen flying anywhere... how could such numerously produced plane be so rare nowadays?? :(

Pity, we can't see 'em flying next to those other great warbirds..

Well I guess they are so rare because germany lost the war and all the planes were destroyed. Since by the end of the war they were not current technology thus not spared the wrecking ball. Wonder weapons 262 163 v2 v3 etc etc were advanced and coveted by the allies so they were carted off. 109 190 obsolete prop planes from a defeated enemy were destroyed in place mostly by germany itself and left to rot. This is also why you dont see very many zeeks kis and niks flying about!

Outstanding lineup of A/C.  Can you imagine the wonderful music of all those engines fired up at the same time.  I am getting shivers just thinking about it...  Jets are cool but nothing beats the sound of a good WWII piston engine in flight.

The Memphis Belle pictured was the one that 'played' Memphis Belle in the film (with chin turret removed).  It's known as the 'Sally-B' after its owner and has different nose art on the port side.

I'm sure it was a Yak-11 converted to radial too.

There used to be a 109 on the circuit but it was damaged slightly and is on static display within Hendon museum.

I read that they found several DB601 and DB605(?) engines in... erm, can't remember exactly where, but it should mean more airworthy 109s in future.
