And now I present you a blast from the past...The famous AW Winter Lecture series with our very own Pyro holding court while explaining the ins and outs of the dreaded and much feared Lightning.

All kidding aside, when I first started flying the P-38 many, many moons ago, this was one of the best lectures you could read on how to fly the P-38. Who would have thought Pyro was a P-38 dweeb deep down inside?

Pyro's dream plane used to be the Bell P-63 KingCobra -- the super P-39. Apparently, he could never convince anybody to let him build it.

It was a far better plane than the P-39 on paper, but there must be some reason why the Air Force exported most P-63s & turned the rest into target drones with little red lights on the top that lit up when they were hit by frangible bullets.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Sweet akak lots of good stuff. about the coalt spit thing is very good. Ive tried this and do the same tactic and works very well to a spit9 anyway. I start to turn fight and cut throttles to out turn him but if he does the same I take it vertical cutin throttles on the bottem of the loop everytime usally gets me the adv. Ive even seen one tumble to the ground in a stall:) About turning with a zeke though I would have to be drunk to try it. The modeling there talking about is that for AH or AW though, when they were talking about the front end and canopy bubble?

The thing I remember most learning from Pyro .... Early in my career, I got hold of one of his F/A-26 Darth Vader films where he was flying as a Bz and went to az-owned N88. There he proceeded to get like 8 kills and 2 assists, mostly with ropes and yoyos. Don't think he actually vulched anybody.

Anyway, that was a great film to learn E-tactics from because it was slow enough and the loops small enough for an FNG to really see what that was all about. Plus, it taught me to dump 2/3 of the Vader's ammo to cut the weight if you were looking for trouble

. I had a LOT of fun in the Vader after that.

It's from Air Warrior, that's why the references to the hit bubble. It was a nice surprise when I moved from AW to AH to find that little trick against the Spitfire worked in here (works against the Spitfire Mk IX and XIV but not the V, Seafire or Mk I) and turning with the Zero trick only worked in AW, it's suicide trying in here unless you get lucky and find a newbie in a Zero/Zeke with the stall limiter enabled.

I have a bunch more of these training lectures that I've collected from my time in AW, most of them on the P-38 that are still useful today.

Don't be so humble yourself. One of the best lectures I read on E management and fighting was the one you wrote up. I still recommend it, along with Rocketman's merge lectures, as a must for new players.

Hehehe, thanks, but we all were FNGs sometime. I got that film about the end of my 1st full camp, in which I got 1 kill (that I didn't see happen and didn't even know about until the CO posted our scores) and 72 deaths. So seeing somebody get 8 kills in what I then thought was a pig of a buff really got my attention

Glad you liked my page. Someday I'll update it to AH standards. But I've been saying that for several years now

That would be great because I'm sure you can teach me a few things as well, so it's a win-win for both of us. Next time you see up in the MA, just holler. I'm usually online after 7pm PST in the MA.
