Through aces high i have developed an interest in aviation and i would like to get into RC model planes. The only problem is i have no clue what to buy. where to bye. and how to get started.
I am 14 and i have never build or flown a model airplane in my life and your help will be appreciated. Thx!:D

same here but i want one that i can crash. Because i know i suck i want one that can withstand me crashing. I want one i can practice before paying $400 for a good one.

Get a Zagi 400. It's a flying wing, electric powered. It it made from a tough foam, so you can crash it all you want, but it's a real plane and can do some neat tricks.

It's popular for combat (trying to knock each other out of the sky) and can be great for slope flying (once you lose alt, just power up high and shut off your motor again).

Great hobby,

Go to a hobby shop and ask where the nearest flying club flys and when. Go to the field and ask that same question to a few people and you will be off and running in a great new sport.

The guys love to help a new guy get started and they even have a thing called a buddy box hook up, to take over the controls when you get in trouble. Many will let you fly there older trainers (with a buddy box hook up) Good luck and have fun.

U want to buy a trainer first most shops do starter packages. Stay away from electirc ones there not that good, petrols the best ones tho buy. U want an ARTF(Almost Ready To Fly) There almost prebuilt just have to put em together. Because u have never tried it b4 join or go to a club and they will take ure plane up and u can get used to the controls of flight.

No No No. Ok, my first flight was last Sunday. I got into it the right way. I found a swap meet and bought a good used trainer, radio, engine, prop ..hell everything. My total bill was like $200. Contact a RC club and asked for a swap meet or about buying some used stuff. Never go to hobby shop to buy anything..its all mark-up. Its fun...My first flight I was doing barrel-rolls and hammerheads because of all my sim. experience. Also, sombody posted a link to a FREE RC SIMULATOR. Ask around for that link again. The RC sims that are avail. are a huge rip-off...like $250.

I never said buy anything there, I would say try E-bay after you learn a bit about what you want.

only way to save bucks is to buy used. new stuff will set you back around $500 by the time you have all you need. And ARTF, don't you believe it. My first kit took almost a week to finish.

And. . . I don't recommend a trainer. I recommend a light wing loaded sport plane. It's controls are more responsive, it reacts less to wind, and if set up properly will be easier to control - particularly as you near the ground. I would not recommend this usually, but since we're all AH'ers - we know what an aileron is.

Then . . . find your local club and glue yourself to someone's elbow. Most clubs have trainers perfectly willing to help you get your plane up and down until you're confident you can go solo.

The main difficulty in RC flying is the reaction time. The planes do not lazily float around the sky, not even trainers. Planes zip by at what seems like Mach 1. I would say that it would take about 2 seconds to go from maximum alt to the deck with an R/C aircraft.

I learned to fly on a PT40 (hence my user name). It has a black fuge and yellow wings with a black stripe on the right wing. I would estimate stall speed to be 15mph with nose high AoA. Max speed is probably 60-75mph.

You guys think flying RC planes is tough, try RC helicopters... every mistake winds up costing a grand or so... Always wondered why I was broke when I was learning!
