Just a little idea to add atmosphere

So you log onto the mission arena and want to know the current state of the war before choosing a mission to fly.
So what do you do? Read the newspaper of course!
There could be a basic overview of the front and how things are going, plus headlines relating to recent activity (Germans invade Kent! US Fighters smash Luftwaffe over Hamburg etc.).

Also players who do something exceptional (e.g. 6 kills in a mission, flatten the ball bearing works at schweinfurt, sink a battleship) could get thier names in the headlines.

No personals though: it could quickly get out of hand :)

Not exaclty a high priority thing but it might be a nice touch.

I went to the WWII online website once and they had something like that.

I think a good thing to do is not put a newspaper in the game but maybe just put some sort of forum.  Players can compliment other players, and in TOD players will get medals. and as for the frontline thing, you can already tell by looking at the map.  However I think there should be some overview of what has happened in the MOPD.

That is one thing I have always liked about WW2OL. They generally keep the "news paper" updated with very current information and you also get an archive you can go back and read. If they do one it should be linked to the server itself so you can see the daily kills recorded versus the one's reported by the different sides in the game. That would be a nice option.

Something like the "scuttlebutt" button on MS combat FS 2, only in Tour of Duty, maybe the text could be put in by someone of the HTC staff after every attack etc.

In MSCFS:2, it has things like, for the Japs at the beginning of the war, something like the American planes are big and not manuverable and we can easily beat them one on one, then later it says something like the American pilots are devloping better skills, this may be harder than we thought.

Then again, it might be too much trouble to have that put up EVERY time anything important happens...

Would the kill reports by American pilots be hugely over empathised? :)

But anyway, newspaper good, and we already have a forum

Oh yeah, in CFS2, that scuttlebutt thing was cool.  You click on it to hear rumors about whats going on, like what is going on in the rest of the pacific.

What about ...

Instead of a 'newspaper', what about a sportscast instead? Something streaming I can listen to at work. :)

ie:
A massive swarm is building from A21 to P102 looks like a tiffy raid inbound and the defending knights are deploying the LOTAR GV Defense array on the field with units enroute the town. Mean while on the western front Bish are....

a new way to geek out I suppose. I liked it when they did it for some other games.

I don't think you realise just how much work that would entail.  There are no hard and fast details on how many missions they will be per hour but I'd expect the arena to scale itself depending on player numbers.

When AH2:TOD is first available I expect that pretty much all of us will have a long look at it, primetime on saturday the first week it's released will be interesting cos they'll be 400+ pilots in there running missions every few minutes.

However, nothing to stop us players from doing something.  Besides, I believe the WW2OL newspaper is entirely player written....under the leadership of DocDoom....er I think.

Yeah, I think you're right.  I sometimes underestimate things alot, and I often overestimate things (like the size of the entire HTC company).  But it is fun to think about....

oh well, thanks for pointing that out
