The difference is that WW2 was sold as a war of liberation from the start. Iraq was not - it was about WMD not freedom.

So then, you're saying that our going to war in WWII would not have been just if the "advertised" reason for going into that war would have turned out to be false?

From what you wrote, I took it to mean that if the initial justification for the war is false, then the entire war is unjust.  Was I reading it wrong?  I would say that just because the initial cause for a war was false, that doesn't mean that it can't net positive result.  I personally couldn't give a flying poop if they find WMD in Iraq, removing Sadaam from power was a just cause in my eyes.

The ins and outs of a just war scenario don't really interest me. I'm more concerned with the manipulation of information to gain approval for committing my country's resources and servicemen's lives in a cause of dubious value.

So if, hypothetically, they lied that would not bother you? If so, what other lies would you tolerate - do you have a line in the sand on this issue?

In the end, I think (as I said), having Sadaam out of power is a good thing, which justifies the war to me.  Whether the current administration in the White House lied about the WMD or not is a separate issue in my book.  On that front, it's not black and white, and I doubt I'll ever have enough information at my disposal to make an educated judgement about whether or not the president was trying to decieve anyone.

The US wasn't the only country to fight for the liberation or Europe and Asia in WWI & WWII, or the Korean and Gulf Wars either for that matter.
