It really does make you appreciate all the HTC has done though doesn't it.

True :)
"And one of the finest aircraft I ever flew was the Macchi C.205. Oh, beautiful. And here you had the perfect combination of italian styling and german engineering .... it really was a delight to fly ... and we did tests on it and were most impressed." - Captain Eric Brown

I can't say that I agree with Sandman's first impressions, but I do think there's a lesson to be learned by targetware,  and for that matter all sim developers. That is, before you release a beta into open play, make darn sure that the flight controls config utililty is easy to use, and bulletproof.

Nothing will turn people against your product like having to spend hours getting your HOTAS to work properly in the game.

Just my humble opinion.

They should have called it WobblyBirds.

Grab a Zeke get it trimmed (hard enough on its own), go to external view and zoom in a bit, do a barrel roll and take your hands off the controls... watch as it continues to 'wobble' for the next 10 seconds. This particular area of the FM needs work before I fly Rabaul for an extended period of time.

I'm hoping Flanders is a bit better in this respect.

Pretty? The cockpits looked good, but the rest... maybe I missed some configuration because AH looks better.

Hmm, last time I checked (Sunday) it had "0" files to choose from, maybe they reloaded it ?  I'll check again tonight.

It's more of an alpha build test imo.  "Open beta" to me indicates means the devloper is about finished, sqashing last minute show stopping bugs and is ready to deliver a final product to waiting customers.  This is in NO way at that point .

I've not gotten to "fly" yet but I have gotten it to run fine enough for me (2ghz machine at 5-10fps!!) that I'm able to launch an airplane in mid-air and with the external view enabled I joyously watch it plummet down to the ground. The aircraft modelling and skins look GREAT however the AW-esque "world" and tracers are a real stomache churner  :(

I do look forward to trying it out more for the engine management features mostly. Features I wish HTC would add - with automation for those who would not like to deal with the extra realismZ.  But so far it's been so much of a squeak to work with I have next to zero enthusiam for trying it out further.

I think the term "Beta" is becoming increasingly mis-used in the software gaming world.

"...Gf4Ti4200."

Hmmm.  A GF2 GTS 64mb here. Appears to be GFX card dependent to a large extent.
