I'd definitely drop the 98SE for a rig like that.  2000 or XP and your good to go.

Windoze 98se has problems seeing/using/dealing with over 512mb of RAM anyhow, so you might as well stick with 512 if you're set on 98se.

oh yea didnt see that. Going with Win98se is kinda silly. especially when win2k and winxp are far superior OS's for that equipment.
