Hiyas,

First WTFG to all!!

Second, I recently, 6 months ago, left WBs and came here.  I was a WBer for 6 years.  I have some tips to help you that the WBers will all have.

1.  In the Main WBs folder you will find a file called init.cfg.  This file can be used for many things but the things you might need are here.  Just copy this text and place it in the init.cfg in the WBs Main file.  If the file is not there simply copy this and paste it into Note Pad and save the file as init.cfg and place it in the WBs Main folder:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
.shadows 0
.bgminrenderrange 5000
.lindablair
.gamma 1.1
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Explanations:
.shadows 0: turns off the shadows and improves frame rates

.bgminrenderrange 5000:  this stands for "Bad Guy Minimum Render Range", or how soon you see da bad guy :)

.lindablair:  this gives you the dead "6" view.  Often discussed as to its dweebness it is still used by many.  To turn it off simply type: .lindablair in the radio bar and press enter.

.gamma 1.1:  You may find WBs to be too dark on your machine.  The .gamma setting can be 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc.  You get the idea.

Big P-51 tip!!!  You can pretty much click a notch of flaps and dive straight down with out "coughing a wing".  It is much harder to compress the P-51 in WBs as it is most WBs planes.  Experiment!

Distance D3 in WBs = 300 in AH.  Never shoot from longer than D5 and I recommend D3.

Good luck!  I hope this helps.  More Q's E-mail me.

If your stick is deflected fully to one side, and you want to push it to the other, first move it to the center the somewhat slowly to the other side. If you push it all the way immediately your virtual pilot will have to move his virtual stick against the full force the whole way.

Make sure you dont have ANYTHING running in the background. Disable Windoze Me "Restore" if running ME. Machine defragged and all in order. Optimum frame rates 24, below that you lose bullets. A 1.2 athlon will run in the 40's when I was there.

Run enditall before each session. I had my gamma bumped to 1.4 to get it light enough.

I don't remember which settings are generic but "snap" views are just like AH "if" they haven't be disabled. "Realism" don't ya know.

I'm wierd, I found gunnery in WB easier then here.

And flying under an assumed name is "tacky"

Kick butt.

And you thought you just download it and fly...If you all get it up and running I'll be flabbergasted..

Ahh yes...the imfamous WB "grandma's old fashion pudding effect" where you stick appears to be connected to control surfaces not thru cables ohhh no...its 100% organic pudding packs.....kinda like star trek voyager...only more fattening

Actually it's pretty easy. Don't move your stick further than the virtual pilot can move his ;)

Shift O (thats oh) will toggle between "Instant Snap" "panned" and G Limited Pan" modes for views.  Also, Shift P will stick the views.

Also there is a cpu.cfg file in your WB3 directory.  You should put a different number in there.  Open with notepad.  The initial install cpu.cfg file defaults to Pentium.  You can choose 0 (zero) to auto detect your cpu or the coresponding number for your cpu.

Here's that part of the readme:

Go to the Warbirds III directory via windows explorer
Right click in the folder, select New -> Text Document
Name it "cpu.cfg" (without the quotes)
Double click on the file, to open it, and type one of the following numbers (ONLY the number) and press Enter:

0 = Auto-detect (default if cpu.cfg doesn't exist)
1 = Intel Pentium
2 = Intel Pentium 2
3 = Intel Pentium 3
4 = AMD K6
5 = AMD K6-2
6 = AMD Athlon and Duron

Type .cpu in the radio bar to see if the proper cpu is detected.

.trimrepeatkey 1
put this in your init.cfg file.  What it will do is allow you to hold the key(s) you use for trimming down so you wont have to repeatedly peck on "k" "i" or "m" "," to trim.

Here's a list of dot commands and some keyboard commands:

If I can think of others I'll post
