White screen at AH login on notebook PC.
« on: July 21, 2003, 06:43:06 PM »
I was hoping to play AH on my notebook when out of town.  I get a white screen with some of the login notebook visable, but no cursor or method of using any of the setup or login buttons.  I have to Alt+Tab out and close AH.

I have an HP Omnibook 6000 with -
Win 2000,
800MhzPIII,
ATI Rage Mobility P/M AGP 2x w/ 8MB Mem,
128MB RAM.

If there is a fairly easy trick or two, that would be great.  Other wise I'll just forget it and fly when I get back home.

Thanks,
DRATLY

Delete the video.cfg file in the settings folder then when you open AH it will ask you video settings again, then again looking at your vid card. If it runs, you won't be able to do much with that card.

Dratly, does your wife know you are posting on strange bulletin boards:confused:

What version of direct x does your laptop have, and are the ATI drivers up to date? Try setting your desktop resolution to sometning simple like 480x640 (or whatever the basic one is).

Did a quick check at atitech.com, it appears the video chip you have is rather old, it may not even support dx8. Uh oh! You may be limited to something like dx 6, but not sure...contact your HP customer support to see what your limits are.

Well, the deleting the video.cfg file will clear up the white screen, but if that chipset is not Direct 8 compatible it may not run AH, that's in the reqs. anyway

Thanks for all the help!  I'll try it.  I know it's weak, but I'm hopeful it's better than missing out on weeks of AH:eek:

In the end

Well, in the end, I was able to login and all with the above advise, but the ol' vid card is too weak.  I had a frame rate between 0 and 2.  LOL!  I could type on the radio, but that was it!  Ah well!

Thanks again for trying everyone!

DRATLY (no traveling with AH for me)
