landing gear light
« on: September 19, 2000, 03:28:00 PM »
I'm sorry if I'm at the wrong place, but I can't call this a bug either. I'm disturbed by the landing gear lights.

In the game they are red when ldg is out, green when ldg is up.

In real life it's the opposite, and being a real life pilot I'm confused with it.

Oh and gime back my P47 top speed please hihihi

Later all

In the planes I normally fly (not p47) it is green when down,  yellow when moving and red when up.

Yeah, the gear lights in AH are kinda weird.

Being that pilots are usually guys that couldn't make the cut to be mechanics (understanding every component on a aircraft other than the auto pilot switch tends to be more difficult), the designers made aircraft very easy to fly and put in idiot proof logic. It's more commonly called a "lights out" or "dark cockpit" design. Another words, if no lights are on, everything is good, (or the pilot left the battery switch off) and when a problem pops up, a "BLAM, LOOK HERE GUYS" red light comes on.

If the gear lights are all GREEN, that should mean, "hey, we put the gear handle to down and they are all down and locked." Time to take off auto pilot and fly for next 3 minutes, wheeeee!

If they are RED, it means, "hey, we put the gear handle down or up and the gear aren't  where they should be. SOMETHING IS WRONG.

You'll get this when the gear is intransit till they lock in the 3 GREEN down position, or into the wheel wells, at which time the lights should extinguish.

Sooo, a gear light sequence should go like this.

TAke Off-
3 Greens taxi for take-off. Upon lift of, move gear into retract. Lights turn RED intransit, and extinguish when locked into wheel well.

Landing-
Lights out. Move gear lever down, should show 3 RED intransit. When they lock down, it should show 3 GREEN meaning its all safe to bounce onto runway, ground loop and crash in front of the refuel shack ending a 7 kill streak.

Towd, my friend, my days as a P47 wizzard are over

It's pretty messy here, now I had to switch back from Cable to Modem because of the new place where I live, Cable and DSL not available (and they call this place USA?  ) I really noticed a difference in my ability to dodge bullets since I'm on modem.

The P47 is not what it used to be. HTC said nothing about it, but I noticed some changes. I feel like the accelerated stalls accours at a higher airspeed. Turnfighting kills me a lot as I can't push people to bleed their E and make them a sitting duck. Looks like the E level of those stall fighters when close from the stall speed is always enought to do something funny on u. The other day, I couldn't even catch back with a Spit at 15K in level flight... getting tought to have some fun in this plane now out of the classic borring B&Z.

To complete the crisis, I have way less time to fly as my work as a flight instructor makes me work 7 days a week from 0700 to 1700 or 1030 to 2200.

But... I'm not a quitter, I will do my best to not loose my touch despite the rare MA flight time and still try to offer some legendary fun dogfights to my fearless and most respected enemies

Be safe all, later (I will cross check this light thing, maybe it was the P47 only...HTC stop torturing my flying baby please  )

I tried P47-D30, Spit9 and F4U-D and all have the landing light color wrong (red when down, green when up).

Maybe it's HTC who helps people have "all green lights when everything ready to dogfight". Maybe it's a bug on my machine. Would you guys be kind enought to let me know what you have on your machine please?

If HTC goal is to have a realistic sim, they may want to revert the colors to 'real life'. I will let them know if it's not a bug from my end. Thank you in advance  .

Ain't it nice how mechanics-turned-pilots tend to live where as just pilots make greasy spots on the tarmac in an emergency?

Yeah, but we sure as H*ll understood the job application sheet, didn't we? Especially the "what position are you applying for" and the "how much do you want to be paid?" parts!
