As for guitars, I've got a G series Takamine.  I love it.  It was originally $800 straight from Takamine, but I found it in store for like $550.  You definitely wanna play as many as you can to find what exactly works for you.  I've go a $100 Maestro (by Gibson) that I still pick on every now and then.  It's beat up, the bridge is superglued back together, and it still sounds pretty good around a campfire.

I have a 2008 Gibson Les Paul Studio that is by far my favorite.  I also own a Gretsch G5120, a Fender Telecaster, and an Ovation Celebrity CC44 electric acoustic.  The neck on the Ovation is a little thin for my liking, but I really like the look and feel of it.  With the right strings it sounds great too.  Whenever I feel like my electric playing is getting a little sloppy, I will go to the acoustic for a few weeks straight.  It seems to help my electric playing alot.  Think of it as running a mile with 5lb weights on your ankles then suddenly taking them off.

You could also just use heavy blues gauge strings on that tele...  Makes the tone a lil sharper, and strums more like an acoustic, feel wise.
