need help with inflight radio
« on: August 12, 2003, 08:05:00 AM »
I bet you're thinking I need help with Vox. Well, not really...

Okay, I'm nuts but I want to have access to winamp while playing Aces High. I've tried putting it 'on top' of AH, I've tried changing the key settings without success.

Simply put, is there a way to access Winamp player without having to alt-tab out of AH? For example, forwarding playlists and such?

Thanks in advance.

I take it I should give up on this endeavor?

Anyone?

What kinda sound card do you have? Older cards and some AC97 chipsets won't let you do that.

I have a Sound Blaster Live card, but I can get the music to play fine, its just I can't get the Winamp interface to be available while in AH.

DirectX takes over the top most window, so you will not be able to see any Windows applications while the game is running.

Also a note;  Running sound programs in the background can cause some oddities in a DirectX game, as DirectX does not take kindly to its hardware being used by other applications.  Manifestations can range from graphics stutters to crashes to desktop.

I've run WinAmp for a long time in the background without any problems, except for the one time I hit 'B' to forward to playlist before I was completely alt-tab'd and I came back to half of my ammo gone. :D

Well, if there is no way this is going to happen, perhaps I could run my MP3 player through the auxillary port of my sound card. Problem with this is the mic doesn't like it. I think I'm cursed :)

There IS a winamp plugin on the site that lets you control the player even though it is not in the foreground. It works well (before the iPod, I used this plugin all the time). So it is possible.

That said, I have a hard time imagining what keys you could use for the Winamp controls that aren't already used for AH controls already.

I have a question.  I don't use Winamp, but I use Musicmatch JB plus, and my keyboard has the media buttons that will allow me to turn volume up, down, next song, play stop, etc.,  Would that work when I am in the game, if so would it cause any complications?

Works when on the desktop.
