Help Configure CH USB Setup
« on: December 25, 2001, 12:50:00 AM »
Ok, I just got CH 568 Combatstick and Pro Throttle (both USB) for Xmas (THANKS CURLY).  Um, I finally got 'em installed ok, and thanks to roadrash, finally got started with mapping the keys.  But, here is my current problem.  How do I tell the joystick to control X and Y axis (pitch/roll) and throttle to control Z (throttle)?

I can do it via AH setup ... but I want to be able to do it using the Control Manger software from CH.

Thanks a ton for the info.

Nim

OH, and if I want the trigger to perform F and B, apparently I just dont put "fb" in the Normal Action line.  What do I put?

I was never able to get the Control Manager software to work for me, dunno why. Maybe cause I was missing something or doin something wrong (normal for me). Programed it all through AH and worked fine.

What do you mean by F and B?

Nim to program your trigger, click on the trigger button and then in the normal action line type " n " this will fire all weapons.

As far as I know Nim you'll have to be satisfied using joystick cal in setup for the axis programing I don't know of any other way that can be done!  :) null

If you want AH to recognize all your buttons here is how you do it:

In Control Manager assign each button to the DirectX device number and button number that you want.  Let's call the device number X and the button number Y.

When you create a new map in Control Manager, the defaults are just fine.  It will give each device (throttle, stick, pedals) a different DirectX device number and then give each button on that DirectX device a DirectX button number from 1 to the number of buttons.

So using Control Manager we have given a specific button on our stick the DirectX device number X and the DirectX button number Y.  And we want AH to recognize this button internally as AH button number Z.

Go in AH clipboard to Setup/Joystick/Select Joystick.

On the left side of this dialog box select what AH button number you want to map - in this case Z.

In the middle of the dialog box, select the DirectX device number (or name) that you want to use for Z.  If it's showing numbers here then you want DirectX device number X.  If it's showing the names then pick which device the button is on (throttle or stick).

Then on the right side of the dialog, select which DirectX button number you want to use, which is Y.

Hit "Set Input" and hit "OK" twice.

Then hit "Stick Mapping".  There will be a bunch of boxes showing, one for each AH button or hat number.  Hit the button on your stick and the box for button Z should depress.

Then you can use the "Stick Mapping" dialog to map button Z to whatever function you desire.

There is a new version of Control Manager that fixes some bugs and makes it compatible with Win2k and XP.

I have a CH HOTAS setup coming in the mail tomorrow and was wondering if anyone has a "profile" for AH posted on a webpage anywhere.  I'm getting the Fighterstick, Pro Throttle and Pro Pedals.

I've got the same hardware that you've ordered, and I've created a pretty detailed profile.  You can download it here.  The zip file includes a jpeg mapping, which should give you some idea of what the profile does.

The profile (particularly the radio buffer commands) is customized for me (JNOV) and includes a script file to do various things like causing the pinkie shift button to toggle gun zoom is pressed for a sufficiently short period of time.  Feel free to download the profile and change it to suit your needs.  If you have any questions, drop me an e-mail or respond here.

(By the way, I've used just about everything available, and, in my opinion, the hardware you've got coming is excellent.  I wouldn't use anything else.)

Thank you - JNOV.  I'm changing from a Thrustmaster F-16 FLCS/TQS to this CH setup.  It will be interesting to see how I like the hardware and software.

After much deliberation I decided not to go Cougar due the the high price of what seemed like necessary mods to make it work correctly for long term.  People just don't seem to have many problems with CH and with the new programming it seems like a good deal.

Brad:

These files are for use with CH Control Manger 2.x.  What you do is put the files somewhere that you can find them (usually in the default directory: c:\Program Files\CH Control Manager\Maps).  Next, run Control Manager and open the *.map file that you want to use to program your CH gear.  Once you've opened the map file, you can edit it, or you can just download it to your gear.  Note that some profiles, including mine, make use of script files.  The script files afford much of the functionality of typical control-flow programming languages, like C or Pascal, and thus add a tremendous amount of programming power to your CH gear.  You can edit the script file, too, or you can just go ahead and download it.  The other file included in the zip archive is just a graphic that illustrates the mapping (i.e., it shows which buttons are programmed to perform certain functions).

I hope this helps.

AKNimitz:

I'm sure you've figured it out by now, but to get the trigger to send both "f" and "b" repeatedly, you've got to use the "HOLD" modifier:

HOLD f b

If you just use "f b", the stick will send "f" once but will only hold the "b".  You can check whether it's working properly by using Control Manager's keychecker (or just a text editor).
