Browser slowdown

Let me start with Aces High is running fine.

But, I recently did a clean install of Windows XP Pro SP1, no problems everything ran great. With so much hoopla about security issues lately I finally decided to install the various hot fixes. Against my bettter judgement I did 'em all in one fell swoop. I was most concerned with Aces High performance, but, no problems. However, web pages scroll noticeably slower. My machine while not bleeding edge is no slouch. 2.4GHz P4, Radeon 9700, Ultra160 SCSI drive and controller, etc.... Anyhow, I haven't turned off any of the jazzy windows effects but these weren't a problem before.

Ideas anyone?

It would seem likely except that my cd has sp1 included and so was installed when I first installed. The problem didn't occur until I installed the dozen or so security/hot fixes. Appreciate the info though.

AKIron, if you haven't resolved this yet, you should go to Windows update and look under the recommended updates section.  There is a patch to fix system slowdown caused after installing one of the security patches.  If I ran Windows XP at home I could give you the direct link.

If you can't find it, I'll try to track it down.

Thanks bloom25 but I am 100% updated, just checked. Damn update is what caused the slowdown and I'm too lazy to figure out which one did it.

It sounds like the patch mentioned in ms security bulletin ms03-013.
AFAIK, there is a new version of the patch, which shouldn't cause the problem, but ... you should have that already.

I can't access MS homepage, seems like w32.blaster is in action, but maybe you can read the security bulletin and identify the patch number on your own.

Secondly, I had one time a defective NIC causing massive windows slowdowns. Just another idea.

Nothing else in Windows is slow including Aces High. Only IE and it is very noticeable. I normally scroll this board for example using a mouse wheel. Prior to patching, the text scrolled smoothly enough to be read even while scrolling. Now, when I open a thread with a lot of posts it jumps in large sections. I may back out the patches tonight and report here.

This last week the Aces High Bulletin Board often seems to load very slowly, but then it functions fine.
