Even though I'm almost certain Fritz post is a troll, Apple was by no means the first with a 64 bit CPU (desktop or otherwise).
If we totally neglect 64 bit CPUs like the Alpha (on which the Athlon is based), which have been around since the mid-1990s, AMD has had working samples of the Hammer core since late 2001. They officially lauched the Opteron on April 22nd of this year.
It gets better though, Apple has never developed a CPU. They have used Motorola CPUs up until the G5, which is an IBM CPU. To top it all off, Apple's current OS X is a 32 bit OS.
