need some advice with a problem
« on: August 28, 2003, 08:40:07 AM »
Guys, Seems I am grounded for a bit, it all started with a simple purchase of a 5.1 speaker system for better sound. of course the old SBlaster PC128 card did not have the output for the center speaker so I picked up an Audigy Gamer by Creative also a Sblaster as an up grade. Well that did not work so well could not get it to work right even after the DL of current drivers. Soooo back to old card as AH would not boot up just screen blink and then back to Dtop. Now I have removed all the new drivers and reinstalled old card and nothing has changed still AH on exaction dumps to DT, sound works other crap works but not AH. Sooo save settings files and remove AH (uninstall complete) and reload a nice new fresh DL and still the same thing. I think the PC is dusty and need a good cleaning in the lake, what thinks you ?

I am using WIN98se and the only changes to my system from good to bad was the sound card change and drivers.

I have the same sound card and no problems.  Running XP with DX 8.1 though.  What version DX are you running?

I've been think of buying a audigy card, but i just read a post that someone that just bought one of these cards and he has  windows 98 se and it says that Audigy does not support this O/S or earlier versions of 98.  I'm not sure of 98 ME though.

I have win 98 so I guess I won't be buying one soon, or atleast until I upgrade my O/S to XP or 2000.

You might want to check and see on the box if it does support win98 se.

Thanks, Problem solved, I had conflicts with many old drivers and junk that had built up in my system. Some how with the many attempts to correct DX 8.1 was messed up and that was the problem with AH. The long and short of it is reformated drive and installed W2K pro and everything is great, sound card works fine and all systems go, I was able to use my USB CH pedels with my USB FSFF2 stick and even now have brakes on my pedels.

The audgy card worked fine with 98se and it sounds great (if you turn off your engine sound you can hear your enama's location with the 5.1 sound, great for SA). Remove all you sound drivers and your old sound card then boot the system with no sound, then Shut Down and add hardware follow the instructions about changing the drivers for win 98.

Regards

Scott
