The AH Jerk Thread
« on: September 04, 2003, 07:11:41 PM »
What defines an AH jerk? I'll list a couple examples of what I think is jerk-like behavior:

1. The Profane Man-Child Jerk
These guys have figured out that capitalized words are not in the text filter and have exploited the oversight. They also understand that the range channel can't be squelched, so it's the perfect place to vent their spleen with every four-letter word they can think of.

The man-child jerk doesn't care that some players may choose not to use headphones and have small children running around the house who are learning that normal adult behavior seems to be to pepper every, single sentence with profanity.

Squad channels are different, since the squad member knows what they are getting into.

2. The Expert Jerk
These guys know everything about everything. They think that just because they have some flight time, or know someone who does, that they are aeronautical engineers and proceed to claim that all AH aircraft flight modeling is hosed.

The Expert Jerk has no formal academic study in engineering and most likely would fail 1st year engineering mathematics.
-----------

Let me just say that I'm also a jerk so no one else has to say it. :D

I can understand why HTC staff would not post responses to every topic here. It's too easy to get sucked into the constant bickering and not get any work done. And if you think this sim/game is easy to maintain and develop the next version simultaneously, you may underestimate the complexity of AH.

While some here think they understand one aspect of it (i.e. game play, interface, FM, damage modeling, net coding, vox, terrain building, vehicle/aircraft modeling and graphics, connectivity, etc.), this is not a one-aspect game. All aspects have to be blended and they all must work.

Talking about doing something isn't the same as doing something. If you look at the state of on-line flight sims, it's obvious that it's not an easy business.

HTC has already said that they are looking into improving many aspects of flight models. And they are working to bring improved graphics with AH2 and a new TOD game scenario after that.

How about we let them get on with it?

With apologies to Lee Iacocca, "If you can find a better sim, play it."

im not a jerk but i think people would perceive me to be when playing AH.  I just enjoy taunting and making fun of the enemy.  If i have a disagreement with someone i have forgotten about it the next day.
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.
