Adrian Lamo turned himself in at the federal Court house in CAL.

I think he hasent done anything wrong. He shows companys where there holes are at and tells them how he got in, in hopes they fixed it. He's trying to help companys but since NYtimes is pissed they want him in jail.  He found that you could hack into the New York Times and get peoples Social Security numbers. He told NYtimes and they got mad (fair enough) but they didnt fix the problem for 3 days later.  Adrian who is not out to do any harm told NYtimes of a flaw that a bad hacker could used and messed things up for alot of people.

Unsolicited screwing with a commercial website is not "doing someone a favor".

Messing up a commercial website is a crime.

If hackers aren't prosecuted, they would continue to expand and screw up every useful sight.

Amazing that someone could try and pretend he wasn't doing anything wrong when he gained unauthorized access to a companies computer.

If he really wanted to help them discover and secure weaknesses, he should have contacted them first and offered his services.

Because of these clowns, millions is having to be spent to try and safeguard against the little script kiddies.  These cost do filter down to the consumer.

It's easy to say he is a criminal. By law he is a criminal.

I know this kid personally. Funny thing is we only became aware of his notoriety this week. He is very gifted but just a little misguided. He is my wife's cousin. He is part of a very talented and unique subculture. Like it or not, it's here to stay.

His parents are former hippies so to speak. He is half Colombian and my spouse full-blooded Colombian. Adrian was very very intelligent from an early age. His IQ would have to be way up there. His parents really offered him no effective guidance in life (remember John Walker). He is like an incredibly powerful sailing ship drifting aimlessly.

I hope that a federal judge gives him a, "now is the time to come to Jesus" talk. He could really do our country a lot of great service in business or government if just put on the right path.

I say let's let him serve a reasonable time in community service using his skills, pay off any damages, probation, and give him a second chance. After that...well...you had your chance.
