I'm going to start re-posting Earl Miller's daily logs from his time in WW2/Viet Nam.
Why? Because...

1942:
My first night flight in the AT-6 after a busy day. A
total of 7:25 flying hours.
1944:
The doctors surely didn't want me to leave. They said I
wasn't well enough, although I have a sneaking suspicion
they felt less guilty about living in such splendor when
they had someone with malaria to nurse. I talked my way
into leaving after promising them that I would go right to
bed as soon as I landed at Tarquinia. One regret I had
about leaving was that I hadn't been able to negotiate the
steps down to the beach. My return to Tarquinia in a P-47
was 45 minutes. And I did go to bed right after landing.
I found out that our flight was called back to Tarquinia
because the airfield at Pisa had been liberated and a
detachment from the 346th Fighter Squadron went there to
perform the same functions we had been doing at Leghorn
(Livorno).
