Ive never personally crapped out an Emachine PS, however, they have a very small PS and anytime you have a small PS the 'spin up' durring boot alone can kill it in under 6 months if you have multiple drives sucking juice.  And there are post on the subject from poor souls that have had the issue from time to time:eek:

I just built an nice screamer for just under 500. us

Asus a7n8x deluxe
512 ddr 333
2400+ Athlon 2.0ghz
thermaltake heatsink w/fan
GF 4 mx 440 64mb
case w/350 watt ps
new floppy

reused the hd , and the cdrom , cdrom rw

I didnt go with the higher end video card at this time, but that can get changed latter as $$ permit ,or the user needs a higher vc requirement.  (this machine prebuilt would cost at least 1000-1200)

Its too bad that this wasnt for me ....

for around 300-350  you can easily build my machine which works well and is very stable ... w/decent frame rates (above 50)
ECS k7s5a  mb
1.3 ghz amd   (can upgrade to a 2.0ghz)
256 ddr    (or reuse your sdram/ddr )this board can take either
GF 2mx 400 64mb  / or a gf 4mx 440 64mb (or spend the money you saved from the ram to get a better video card)
cheapy case w/350 ps

reuse your hd/floppy /cdrom

My MB (Asus P4T 533) can't take DDRAM as well, so i have to stick with 1GB of RAMBUS at 1066 MHz;)
