Norton AV

my virus deffinitions haven't been changed since 9/24.  I don't think it's ever gone more than a week without an update.

that along with a pop-up every day (at least once) letting me know my deffinitions are out of date and asking if I want to run 'live update', followed by live-update running in about 1/4th the time it usually takes and the same pop-up in a couple hours or at the latest, the next day.

thsi has been going on for about a week.  I remember someone on the board saying they worked for symantec.  so maybe they could clue me in.

are things really that quiet on the new virus front or do I have a problem.

btw- I almost forgot.
norton 2002 with the paid renewal in january.
is buying the renewal as good as getting the latest version. or am I making a mistake? (it's not that much of a cost saving if it doesn't work as well)

Something's wrong there. I  update manually, every day or so, and there have been more updates than usual recently ...

thanks,
I'm not sure why liveupdate wasn't working but I manually downloaded the inteligent update .exe and now have deffinitions that went out yesterday.

I do the live update manually, too. I don't like automatic downloading of anything to my PC. I do the same with the Windows updates, too.

I was doing the live update manually, I just hadn't noticed until today that they deffinition date wasn't changing.

so I went the symantec sight and downloaded them and ran the .exe   so far (half way throught the smaller drive) I've got 5 trojans, that where missed before.

I guess someone could have wrote one to disable the deffinition update?

tricky way to go if they did, as I suspect most just update with the live-update feature.

I do a update once a week manually. I don't like the outto updates for anything. The pop up windows always popup at the wrong time. Plus I think they take away from my memery being on all the time.
