Well, TM AfterburnerII (great stick) spiking a bit so I says "I'll give that POS Hotas Cougar a try again". Well, damn me if the throttle doesn't work! Checks Frugals forums. Oh! you have to  clean the pots. Take it all to pieces. Sometimes you have to re solder the connections. Bend the little contacts. etc etc.

Jeez what a poorly built piece of crap. Why didn't they spend more money on the innards. It's all soft crappy metal and cheap pots.

How I wish I'd got CH stuff. (Pedals are great)

Please don't tell me to get the Uber Cougar Mod.

BTDT, email TM, they'll send you a new pot free. Yes, it's a pain-in-the-ass.

Thanks for the reply AK Iron.  BUT

I don't want to be a sore arse but I wish you guys would keep this kind of stuff for the O Club.

Sorry but fat chance :)

I will be happy to avoid posting to any thread you start however, if you wish.

Yeah. I figured. Thanks for the posts. I'll try and get a spare pot through the supplier. Meantime I fixed my Afterburner II with some cardboard and it's great again:D

FWIW the problem you are seeing only seems to happen once you upgrade the firmware. I didn't upgrade mine and have been fine so far.

Perhaps the newer models are coming with the firmware already upgraded.

My problem (and someone else's in my squad) happened months after the firmware upgrade.  New pots fixed the problem in every instance instance I've heard of.

My first cougar worked fine for the first day. Then I upgraded the firmware and the throttle stopped responding right after. I returned it to Amazon and got another.

I'm still waiting for the replacement pots before I upgrade this one. I've been waiting 2 months, how long did it take to get yours?

Got my replacement pots within two weeks of emailing TM about them. Now I am able to run the newest firmware and take advantage of the change and put the WEP on the throttle with the detents. It takes some getting used to but its great.

It's a component; components sometimes break - I've previously had bits and bobs from Saitek and Suncom. TM will send you a replacement pot for free. Great service.
