john9001: ...blix also said iraq had WMD, but he needed more time to find them, like 6-12 months.

 That's not what he said.
UNMOVIK inspectors were crawling all over Iraq. They had gone to the several hundred places where they were most likely to find illegal activities and found not a scrap of evidence that could hold up to even casual questioning. Muhammed ElBaradei, chief of the IAEA, said emphatically that Iraq had no nukes and could not acquire them without being discovered. Hans Blix of UNMOVIK said his team was interviewing Iraqi scientists in private and that ALL THAT REMAINED was to clear up some of the discrepancies in how Iraq disposed of CW and BW in 1991. Blix said this would take perhaps two more months at most and that Iraq was cooperating to expedite the process! Because of constant hints from your team that UNMOVIK was not quick enough to spot WMD, Iraq invited you to send CIA teams into the country to swoop down at a moment’s notice on sites they suspect.

You mean the people who post threads bashing the USA while giving Chirac a virtual blowjob?

HANS BLIX: Well, we have a great many places that we want to visit, and we will hope that we will get more information from governments, but one must realize and remember that the Iraqis have had plenty of time to hide whatever they wanted to hide since 1998. They were quite capable at that before, and they would be even better at it now. We read stories to the effect that they have been putting things on mobile -- on trucks and moving it around in the country - there could be underground installations - and we would need to have an idea where we could find that and look for it.

JIM LEHRER: Well, if they in fact have hidden something, would it be realistic to expect them help you find what they have hidden?

HANS BLIX: No, not really. I think that it is more likely they've hidden something, and as you come up to it, there would be a denial of access but a denial of access is also a very significant event, and I don't think that the Security Council today would be willing to go along with the kind of cat and mouse play that they had in the past.>>>>.

King of diamonds is technikly correct:D

Mobutu (remember the african "leader" with the leopard hat) was supported by the French. Mobutu was starving his people/country but controled the diamond mines. The French were doing business with Mobutu, thus having a part in the diamond mines.

In 1996 (IIRC), Laurent Desire Kabila did a revolution to kick Mobutu out, revolution mostly financed by the CIA. Laurent Desire Kabila became the new leader of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and by the same talken, USA "gained" the diamond mines over France.

So ... Bush is the King of Diamonds!

(Oh, and before one of you stupid patriotic jerk say something like "look at what France did, WTG USA", you may want to know that DLK ended up worse than Mobutu, violating human rights on a daily basis, till he finally got shot by his own body guard.  :o
