Well, which part of the above is not true? And is it true in part or completely untrue?
Well, it reminds me of Soviet media.
Soviet joke from the 70s: Brezhnev and Carter had a racing competition. Next morning Pravda writes: "American president was next to last, comrade Secretary General was the second".
The funniest thing there is about "democratically elected government". Great. It's a joke of the month.
killed tens of thousands of civiliansThe guys from Washington Post counted them, no doubt. Several hundreed thousands of non-Chechen refugees and people simply slaughtered and raped there since 91 don't count. Anyway the number is highly overestimated. It's exactly like someone on this board telling me about 120 millions of Soviet people killed by evil communist regime.
forced others out of refugee camps and back into the war zoneThere is no war zone in Chechnya now. Federal goverment simply got tired of feeding people who refuse to take care of their own crap and waste, being too honorable and leaving it to Russian gyaur pigs. They are free to stay, but they'll have to take care of themselves.
reduced the capital and every major town to rubble I already answered this one. If the enemy doesn't surrender - it has to be destroyed.
indiscriminately rounded up the entire male populations of dozens of villages for torture or summary execution It's a lie. Just - a lie.
so shattered the country's civil society that previously marginal Islamic extremists now are a major force.
Civil society?! Islamic extremists are a major force? You mean - several hundreeds of terrorists and Arab mercenaries are a major force?!
Damn! (is this word still OK here?) More then 90% of Chechen population voted for a new constitution.
Now - some thoughts.
American press started an anti-Russian campaign. Many papers print anti-Russian materials as "advertisement", like famous letters from our "dissidents" written in 2001, where they accuse our president of "state antisemitism" and other deadly sins. Some "adds" even accuse federal government for kidnapping foreign doctors, actually kidnapped by Chechens. I have heard that they published a new "open letter to president Bush" by Boris Berezovsky, who is under investigation here for assisting terrorists and stealing 2000 cars from VAZ.
Looks like some forces in the West are interested in spoiling relations with Russia. I wonder why. I try to understand why Bush is so "friendly" with Putin, and who tries to raise hatred towards my country.
